In all fairness I didnt say he was a bad actor, never saw any of his work so I wouldnt know. I did say that the project seemed to be getting worse, but more from the direction the casting is going. The casting of actors Im unfamiliar with, from genres I dont normally care for is why I made the comment. For a movie thats languished for so long and now seams to be moving along quite quick makes me think it doesnt bode well. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong.
None of that paragraph has any logic behind it.

You have chosen not to see some of the most popular films of the last 30 years, so you don't know anything about these actors. Suggesting casting them means something bad based on your, frankly, unusual taste in films is silly.

What it means is the studio is shelling out big bucks for this movie. While there are certainly high profile flops, they don't tend to be as packed with big actors as this one is.

When studios throw a bunch of money at stuff, with very few exceptions, they tend to watch production like a hawk. If the script is bad or the director's a mess, they will replace them.

And lots of projects languish for decades before getting made, including some of the biggest hits of all time. The Black List is an incredibly influential list of the best unproduced scripts in Hollywood and many of them end up getting made eventually -- and some, as you can see from that list, bring home an armful of Oscars.

I'll be honest with you, I find that when I don't like a movie it usually has very little to do with the acting. Movies like Alien: Covenant or Rise of Skywalker were great disappointments but none of my ire was directed at the actors as they did just fine with the material given to them. Bram Stoker's Dracula was quite enjoyable even though Keanu Reeves was horribly miscast as Jonathan Harker. And who can forget the howls of anger from fans who thought Michael Keaton, Mr. Mom, would be terrible in Batman? And here's a link to 5 Reasons Heath Ledger is Wrong for the Joker from 2015 that I'm sure we'll all agree hasn't aged poorly at all.

I think Hugh Grant will do just fine.

I don't think this movie is going to be impacted by the prior movies at all. We are talking about one theatrical release that is over 20 years old and two made for SYFY movies. In my opinion 98% of the movie going public will have no idea these exist.

With the Directors and cast they have, this movie will start with a clean slate. Heck, any baggage it has will be from Guardians of the Galaxy comparisons.

True but there's no built in good will either.

D&D movie usually gets a huh or groan type reaction.

Captain America: The First Avenger managed to overcome the previous Captain America movie. The general audience has wisely removed the previous D&D movies from their memory, other than R_J, who apparently only has access to those three movies on Betamax.

Wolfram is right, the earlier D&D movies will have zero impact on this one. The general population certainly isn't aware of them let alone have such a horribly negative opinion that they won't watch the new one despite having far higher production and casting standards. I wouldn't even know that there had been previous movies if people on this forum didn't talk about them.

It’s entirely possible that “Forge Fletcher” is a fake name to toss the press so people won’t go looking. It’d be really funny if Forge Fletcher was code for, say, “Obould Many-arrows” or something. 🙂
Perhaps it will be something more like Rip Ripperson....
