Pathfinder 1E How to treat an Irish Blackthorn? (shillelagh)

Needs to be more vorpal.

Well, vorpal weapons need to be slashing weapons for one. Second off, I think that would be a bit powerful for a level one character, I could make a or powerful enchanted variation later. I think this current design is fine though.

That was sarcasm on goldo's part. What you have posted seems like a lot for what it really is: a club that happens to be usable as a cane.

(And look at other vids- especially ones like Nguni stick fighting, escrima, and so forth.)

It's used one handed and 2 handed. It isn't particularly long or heavy- even if the fat tip is loaded with lead- so why should it have x3, which is more than most blunt weapons? Its shape isn't more conducive to tripping or blocking than weapons like maces or hammers.

You're overthinking this.

In reality, a person with a steak knife could kill a person of similar strength and health who has a longsword, under the right circumstances. A lot depends on skill level, ability to move around, initial distance between the fighters, differences in arm length, how the weapon is used, individual personalities, the circumstances, the surroundings, etc. No single hand weapon is always going to do more damage than another. Some will tend to do more damage under controlled conditions, but combat is never a controlled condition. That's why videos like the one linked above don't really tell you much. A mannequin can't fight back.

As far as a blackthorn walking stick goes, I would probably treat it like a quarterstaff, mace, or club, at least in Pathfinder game terms.

Stats should be a nerfed club, just like the laws intended.

Club (small sized) -2 to hit for medium creatures, 1d4 B damage.

RL shillelaghs had lead weighting to get them over the 2 pound weight. In game a club is 3 pounds, so if a blackthorn is smaller than a Shillelagh, then the damage must be smaller as well.

"Club" is an extremely generic term that can be applied to weapons with a wide variety of sizes, weights, and materials. If you really get down to it, a mace is a type of "club."

With a blackthorn walking stick, many shillelaghs (which come in many lengths and sizes), and any cane weapon that doesn't have added materials, I would just go with the generic 1d6 simple one-handed melee weapon in Pathfinder.
