Pathfinder 1E How to treat an Irish Blackthorn? (shillelagh)

Puxido

First Post
The Blackthorn is an Irish "walking stick" which was invented when the British outlawed theshillelagh. I know the shillelagh is a spell in pathfinder, but I'm referring to the actual weapon used and revered in Ireland. What stats and proficiencies should I give it?

Club :-/

It's rather unfortunate if you want to create a character focused around using this kind of weapon, since clubs are pretty terrible at what they do. The two most common solutions are to invent either a new magic item (Shillelagh of Striking - counts as a club for purposes of proficiency, but deals more damage and can be enchanted), or invent a new combat feat (Shillelagh Master - requires BAB +1, you gain a +1 bonus to hit with clubs, and increase base damage to 1d8 damage with x3 crit; this feat counts as Weapon Focus).

I don't agree, the Blackthorn is much different in style, wielding, shape, and significance to be considered a quarterstaff or a club.

So are all different longswords. They vary in size, shape, and style. It's a club, as is a baseball bat, a tree branch, or a chicken-legged shaped thing.

What aspects about it do you feel are notably different to all of those things?

It doubles as a walking stick, while being used in two hands I think it would be considerably lighter than a greatclub. Besides its cultural impact (why should a Katana be different than a bastard sword if they function the same), it should require separate feats than the club.

Simple one-handed melee weapon. 1d4 of damage if medium. Crit X2 on 19-20 cause it has a round hard tip and that hurts more?Alternatively it could Crit on 20 for X3.

+1 competence bonus to disguise as someone with swagger?

It shouldn't, really, IMO.

I agree, just seems like a bit of money I spent for a book that I could have saved. But from my research the Shillelagh is much different than your common club or ballclub.
P.S. I had a post on baseball bats, and decided to treat them differently than a club. The system I decided on was suggested, and it's a d8 medium that is used in two hands as a simple weapon, and can be used in one hand as a marital weapon.

Ok, how about this for an Irish Blackthorn.

A 1d8 medium exotic one handed weapon. Can be held in two hands as a martial weapon. Crits at 20 fir 3X damage, and deals bludgeoning damage.
What do you guys think of this?
