No bird-eating, but I have on occasion had non-real-world equivalent holidays for specific campaigns - one game had the players wanting the King - whom they didn't particularly like - agree to a prisoner exchange treaty with neighbouring dwarves - whom the king didn't particularly like. They knew he wasn't likely to agree to such, so one of the players said "what about the Festival of St. Vigeous?" The what? "The Festival of St. Vigeous. People gather together for a day of fun and relaxation, and anyone who presents a relic of St. Vigeous to the king gets one boon of their desire - given that there wouldn't be very many such relics left in the world, the King wasn't likely to be overwhelmed with requests, yet the people got a morale boost because they thought he really listened to them." So, off I went to craft an adventure for the PCs to recover a relic of St. Vigeous - player world-building at its finest in my opinion, and I got ot use a lot of Tournaments, Fairs, and Taverns.

Another player typically buys the other PCs in game Yule gifts whenever the in-game calendar passes the season.
