D&D (2024) Has the new PHB reveals made you want to stick to an older edition of D&D, or to move onto a 5e-adjacent RPG?

Not super enthused. Atm it's lipstick on a pig. And there's no point buying it if they continue their current trajectory on poor products eg adventures.

I've been running old Dungeon adventures and bought Golden Vault on Thursday.

So hoping I might get to 0kay it for free by that I mean one of the players buys it.
Tbf I need to see a dead tree PHB in hand.

I will propose several alternatives to it, once it will come time to finish current campaign and start a new one. It will include Nimble 5e, DC20, Tales of the Valiant, Pathfinder 2e, maybe Shadowdark. I could use a comprehensive list of games that are 5e-adjecent, if there is one.

As DM, I am excited about using the background design space for worldbuilding cultures.

Different religions can have different backgrounds to choose from, and the origin feats can grant certain magic rituals even spells that are pertinent to the magic of the tradition.

Meanwhile having all of the game rules in one place, well-organized, is quality of life for DMing. The times that rules do refer to DM , pretty much means the DM style decides − whether deciding on the fly or following precise procedures among copious houserules.

The rules especially respect the DM to determine and play out setting decisions. DM style might want to rely on a setting guide, or statistically more likely, innovate a homebrew, which the 2024 rules now fully support.

I find the 2024 Players Handbook to be the best DM tool in any edition of D&D.

didn’t we just have a thread about that?

Depending on how adjacent you want to be, you are missing Shadow of the Demon Lord / Weird Wizard, 13th Age, Level Up A5e, and if it ever materializes Cubicle 7’s D20 game.

Personally I am most interested in Shadow of the Weird Wizard from that list (including the ones you mentioned)

For all of you who have read and watched the new PHB reveals and felt that the 2024 D&D isn't for you, has the reveals made you want to stick to an older edition of D&D (which now includes 5e) or to move onto a 5e-adjacent RPG?

I'll be sticking with 5e until my group finally finishes up our current adventure, whenever that might be. 😋 After that, who knows?
Oh, no, the 5.5e reveal definitely hasn't made me want to play past editions. You can be quite confident that these reveals have had no impact whatsoever on whether I wish to play past editions or "5e-adjacent" games more.

Okay, any thoughts on the Dragonborn artwork in the 2024 PHB? WoTC finally decided to give them tails. ;)

Haven't seen it. Given how much I dislike most of the changes to dragon art, however, I'm not particularly enthusiastic about any changes to dragonborn. I am completely indifferent on the tails issue. I liked 4e dragonborn and officially they didn't have tails, but I am okay with some dragonborn having tails and others not having them.

I also didn't like the changes to the dragon art. I liked how they looked back in 3e,4e, and 5e. Since the Dragonborn are anthropomorphic versions of the dragons, seeing how the dragons were going to look in 2024 D&D, I was a bit concerned about what they were going to do to the Dragonborn's looks.

The Dragonborn artwork in the 2024 PHB is good. I was happy to see that they had tails.
