Gamehole Con 2025 Thread

Are the organized play sessions you running part of AL or is this something different?
They’re calling it Wardens of the Eastern Marches and it sounds pretty AL-adjacent. They’re going to offer some options where a GM can link with a single group of players for multiple sequential scenarios and thus offer greater continuity in play from one session to another.

Alex Kammer, he started the convention and owns the Gamehole and all the glorious treasures within.
Ah okay. Sorry, just moved here last spring. Only attended for the first time last year. Don't know much about its history or the organizers. But it was a goldilocks convention for me. Just the right size. Before that I only went to Con of the North, which I love, but it is small. Before 2014, when I got back into the hobby, I hadn't been to any gaming conventions since the late 80s when Gen Con was in Milwaukee. Would love to go to Gary Con, but I can't afford the time and money to go to both and this year my son and his girlfriend, and my younger son, are joining. Older son is graduating from high school this year, so something we can do before he's off to college. I felt Gamehole Con was a better vibe for my kids, they don't care enough about the history of the game to get the most out of Gary Con and I think Gamehole Con has more variety in terms of other events. I could be wrong, but my sense is that Gary Con is smaller.

I feel that Gary Con is more crowded feeling. But that could be because of the layout of the resort compared to the convention center structure of the Alliant Energy Center.
And I totally hear you on the Goldilocks feel of Gamehole Con. I agree - good size, good variety, good amenities, great parking. I’ve been bringing my youngest for a number of years, and she loves it too (she’s now 20). And every night, we go home to our own home and beds because it’s local!

That's nice. Though, I would get a room when I went to Con of the North, even though I could drive home every evening if I wanted to. I like to be immersed in the con and stay up late and just walk to my room and go to bed. But Con of the North is held IN the hotel. At Gamehole Con, even most of the nearby hotels are enough of a walk that driving home is going to be as or more convenient if you live in/near Madison.

I plan on attending this year and made my decision mainly on there being a Cthulhu theme this year. Since the housing portal doesn't open until noon on 3/15, I guess being up late didn't help so much. I'm thinking of running a game of Death in Space, but I'll make a final decision soon. It just depends on whether I think I can run a scenario for roughly three hours. I don't think it'll be a problem, but if people are paying for a con I want to make sure I don't disappoint.

My wife and I are planning to attend. I'll have an Author's Table in the Dealer Hall again; hopefully life won't interfere to keep us away like it did last year.

Well that sucks. Gamehole Con said that the housing portal opens at noon. I go in exactly at noon, everything in walking distance is sold out. I refresh for a while, clear my cache and try again, try in another browser...all sold out. Either they already had the rooms for exhibiters etc., or by "noon" they meant Eastern time. Or they started earlier than noon and I was too dumb to check.

Oh, wow. I couldn't get a hotel at Alliance Center at the con rate. Looks like all the blocked off rooms were sold out. Drat.
If you are willing to pay more, you can call the hotels directly. I was able to get a room at Home2 and use my Hilton Honors discount. Will be a suite instead of two rooms, so I'm getting one expensive one room for two couples (King bed and pull out queen) instead of two rooms. The price is actually less than the two rooms would have been, but it would have been nice to have the two rooms.

But I don't know how 7 hotels were sold out at exactly 12 noon when the housing portal was supposed to open unless it opened earlier than noon or they allow earlier booking for exhibitors, presenters, VIPs, etc. But all 7 booked before the portal opens? Seems like it must have opened before noon. Doing some googling it seems that in the past the housing portal opened at 8am. I'm wondering if it was actually open at 8 instead of noon.
