FR Sages, is there any place in Faerun for a gothic realm?

I think Cormyr could be a good place to 'set Ravenloft'. In fact, it could make an excellent gothic setting. But so could the Moonsea, in a 'Transylvanian' kind of way.

A bit of a change in history never did no-one no harm, right? ;)

Manshoon I think is the name you're looking for Mighty Veil.

What about Rasheman? I always thought that place was rather insular and mysterious, and having Barovia tucked up in the mountains up there might be kinda cool.

Vaasa or Damara: Orcus and his followers spent a fair bit of time roaming around there

You could always drive the Duke out of Daggerford and reestablish the Barony of Blood under Artor Morlin ie Daggerford is Barovia

The Great Dale sounds like a good choice, as does the Cold Lands region (Dalamar, Vaasa, Narfell). It should be a remote, isolated place, if it's the Ravenloft I recollect.

The Great Dale sounds like a great choice, and that living wooden castle sounds very compelling.

Rashemen would also work really well; forget Thayan intrusions into Rashemen, adn stick Ravenloft up there squished to the west a bit. Rashemen always struck me as being distinctly Russian in flavour (well, a more barbaric/matriach-run place) and the whole "eastern european" bit could fit well up in that area; just make some room on the map :D

I'm going to say... it depends. Are you just using Barovia or are you using some/all of the domains? Also, do the Ravenloft domains need to stay together, keeping their traditional neighbors, or do you want to break them apart, scattering them based on where they fit best according to climate and culture?

Another thing to keep in mind is that some Ravenloft domains already have ties to the Forgotten Realms, which might be useful.

The high level campaign I'm currently playing in started out in Barovia, as a mystically hidden/forgotten kingdom in the southern part of Vaasa, where an ancient spell had messed with peoples minds and made them think the mountains were where the kingdom was....

Currently, we're involved in a plotline where we are working to stop Orcus and Tiamat from opening a gate to the Prime and coming through it at full power. The DM was quite pleased to see how much of the draconic history prestented in Dragons of Faerun meshed with his campaign background....

I plan on picking up Ravenloft, but I'd like it to fit into the realms somewhere rather than be some demiplane the characters get shunted off into. Anyone got any ideas?
I've done just that, and put the "gothic horror" region of the Realms in and around the Galena Mountains of northern Damara and Vaasa (oh... and I see others have done that, as well).

What with Zhengyi the Witch-king, cultists of Orcus, and the region remaining relatively undetailed (with most of the info found in FR9), you have a lot of freedom. For example, I made some of the barons and dukes mentioned in FR9 into vampire lords and the like, and easily inserted (3.5-updated) 2e Ravenloft modules in that region.

Eric's mention of Llorkh is also good, as just north of there is where I placed I6 Ravenloft (and the soon-to-be-released Return to Castle Ravenloft) - the village is the town of Orlbarr.
