First PHB ever sold is up for sale on ebay

Why does the bidding history look the way it does, then?

- Not an ebayer Spikey

Deciphering eBay bid histories can be like divining chicken entrails sometimes, but it's got something to do with that fact that before the auction is complete, the bid history only reflects actual bids, not automatic bids executed by the eBay machine on your behalf.

The other guy could have bid $1000 for all we know. It just automatically raises the bid to the lowest number that defeats the previous bid. If the new guy bid $1000, and diaglo bids $3000, then the bid price will show up as $1000.01.
I don't think that's correct. Ebay uses distinct steps for bidding automatically. That's usually 50 cents increments in low ranges, $1 increments further up, and I think there are further increases in bidding steps. So if a $1000 bid is beaten by a $1000.01 bid, this indicates that the $1000.01 bid is a hard border that has been put in by the bidder as maximum bid.

That's... weird. Anyway, thanks! :)

I love to watch auctions like this...

...and after I win the lottery, I may actually participate in them. :D

Me too, I look forward to see how this will end. I can afford US$250 but I serious doubt this will sell for less than US$1,500.

Well, next bid has to be $255.01 or higher, so the "step up" right now is $5. I think that means that hellsreach either knows diaglo's habits, had insider info, or just plain out lucky bid 1 penny more than diaglo maxxed it at.

I'm curious about the "hellsreach can afford this" comment. Is this a name from the boards here or another board that I should recognize? Closest thing I can come up with is "hells cow" or something similar which IIRC is Keith Baker on Wizards. Is someone presuming he still has all the cash on hand and is going to dump it into this auction?

I feel like the National Enquirer - curious minds want to know!

I don't think hellsreach is Keith Baker. (Also, I believe KB got a little more money for the setting search than he'd need for this auction. $100,000 for the final stage, was it?)

"hellsreach" is the nick that Eric Gibson of West End Games uses, so it might be him.
