5 out of 5 rating for Exploding Kittens

As of this writing Exploding Kittens, the game created by Elan Lee, has finished it’s record Kickstarter campaign with a massive $8,782,571 sum from over 200,000 backers and is available for purchase from E-tailers such as Amazon!<span
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> As one of those lucky backers I’d like to pass along my experience playing the game.</span

First; I’ve played through both the NSFW and regular decks. They’re very similar and the game’s simplicity (perhaps it’s main selling point) remains intact through both. They can be combined and, if you have more than 5 players, it can be necessary. In all cases you have wacky sight gags (mostly involving cats) and a whole lot of gross (but humorous) humor.

The decks aren’t spectacularly thick and, because of this, play can take place in as little as 15 minutes. Get a group of friends together and go crazy. The laughter during our <span
class="SpellE">playthrough actually brought play to a halt on a number of occasions!<span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span>After learning what few rules there are play becomes nearly visceral and increasingly quick allowing for more games in a short time.</span

The only drawback I can point towards is also its greatest strength; simplicity.<span
style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Don’t come into this with the same mindset you use to win a game of Magic: the Gathering or even <span class="SpellE">Fluxx</span>; you’ll be sorely disappointed. For a fun game to play with friends, family, even the kids (non NSFW deck please) whip
this thing out for 15 minutes or so but, for anything else, grab a game with a little more grit (virtually any other game).</span

As far as pure fun goes Exploding Kittens gets at least a 9/10. If it's just you and the guys (or girls) feel free to play through the NSFW deck but be warned; it gets really blue in ways that I don't think ENWorld wants me to describe here. Hardcore gamers who can’t lighten up for a few minutes should steer clear but, for everyone else, here’s your time waster.

I say "Michael Bay Levels of Fun" ironically, even though I think the game is fantastic. Setup is simple and gameplay is even easier. Along the lines of other games like "We Didn't Playtest this at All" the game can last for minutes or until the very last card. Either way it is more fun than a basket of kittens.

Exploding Kittens is a great introductory game for anyone who wants a good laugh. The only issue I can find with the game is its somewhat low replay value. Once you've seen the jokes the game itself only holds a minimal level of strategy so it can get a bit old. The fact its such a quick play and you'll want to see your friends' reactions to it may counteract that flaw in a way other games wouldn't be able to.
