D&D General Eberron: Mark of Death

This seems unlikely, given that the line of Vol was exterminated approximately 2600 years ago, and the dragonmarked houses didn't really start any large-scale cooperation until the War of the Mark about a millenium later.
I like that, but other than medicine checks I don’t know how to model that “hospice care” aspect.

The bearers were targeted because of the breeding of dragonmarked heirs with dragons to create an Apex Dragonmark that was potentially so powerful it would have made Erandis Vol a godlike being had she not been killed. The entire line was wiped out because otherwise they might just do it again.

So the mark itself wasn’t the reason.
Well, that would complicate the theory, then.*

For skills, I would consider Persuasion and Intimidate to mitigate or inspire fear of mortality.

Spare the dying and toll the dead to nudge a person one way or the other.

*I wonder if a parallel could be drawn with House Cannith and the Mournlands. It might be that an apex mark is ungovernable. An artificial one may have been made in Cyre which precipitated the Mourning. Just musing.

FYI: I was just perusing Morgrave Miscellany, and I note that Keith Baker included a Mark of Death elf subrace and three Mark of Death feats in it.

The subrace grants a +1 to Wis and Cha, a d4 on Charisma checks to interact with dead / undead creatures, and an ability to create a telepathic link with undead creatures.

The feats each grant a Cha bonus, modifies the d4 to Charisma checks, and adds some spells (e.g. spare the dying, gentle repose, speak with dead, and so on).

Wasn't there a second person with the Mark of Death, from the Eberron novels? I half-remember reading one of them years ago.

Erandis d’Vol was hardly the only person to bear the Mark of Death. The issue with her is that she had an uber-mark, greater even than a Siberys mark. Keith has described her as essentially being a living eldritch machine. That’s why the dragons and the Undying Court teamed up to eliminate her.
