Dragon Age RPG

DRAGON AGE RPG is a game a friend pointed out to me. I'm interested in knowing more about it, and if anyone nabbed the pdf I'd love a review.

I read the previews: I like that it's simple and goes back to olde schoole style table top games, at least initially. I like how there are talents, I kinda like the 3d6 stat generation and die use, and getting rid of a skill system (ie: everyone can try any skill, but can buy focus in one for a Feat/ Talent). I like the different stats, they seem fun and different, which is good.

Thing is, I don't know why to spend cash on it if it's less-good than just cracking open that OD&D book... or even regular 2e/3e/4e D&D.

What might sell me on this is if anyone can spend a talent and learn One spell. Everyone has a Magic stat. If so, it seems logical that at least higher level PC warriors or rogues could learn a single spell or two for their arsenal. Maybe it's for magic items later on, but I don't know.

Anyone know for sure?

The video game was fantastic. I was very enthusiastic for the Tabletop game. I say was because I no longer am enthusiastic. I am disappinted in Green Ronin as they released this game poorly. I cannot tell people how to run a business, but it seems to me that it would of worked great if it was released with the video game. The video game gets people enthusiastic and they buy the box set.

I played and finished the game long ago. Now I have gone back to Pathfinder Forgotten Realms. I would of been more willing to switch when my enthusiasm for DA was high.

I am sure DA is a great game, but like you, I wonder why spend the money? I certainly would have along with the video game due to blind enthusiasm. Now I really don't care so much.

I suppose. It's only been a few months, but i guess in videogame land that's a long time (unlike WOTC, which waited a year to give 4e basic classes like Bard and Druid; and yet I still played...)

heh, as I was signing in to respond, I saw "forgotten password?" and wondered if that's why playing FR using Pathfinder evolved: psychological conditioning and all that.

Well, I assume they just didn't have a ruleset finished at the time of the video game release, getting the license too late for that. Still suboptimal, no doubt about that.
