According to SciFi.Com – whose veracity is somewhat touch and go – there has been a development for Spidey 2:

“The Coming Attractions Web site reported that actor Alfred Molina has signed on to play Doctor Octopus in the upcoming sequel The Amazing Spider-Man.

“According to the site, an anonymous source confirmed an earlier report that Molina had been offered the role of the notorious villain. The film is set for release in May of 2004.”

For the record, Molina has played a number of roles, including the bad guy in “Maverick,” the local noble in “Chocolat” and as Snidley Whiplash in the movie version of “Dudly Do-Right.”

He might also be remembered as Satipo, the "Throw me the idol; I'll throw you the whip" guy from Raiders of the Lost Ark :)

wasn't he also just in Frida? an interesting choice in casting, if that's true

...but i was kinda hoping The Lizard would be the next Spidey villain....

Man, and here I was so hoping to see some symbiotes in the next Spidey film. :(

Oh well, maybe in the third movie...

Probably very slim. Which is sorta too bad. I think some of Marvel's best stuff results from team-ups (*cough*Maximum Carnage*cough*), all the more so because they don't happen with the pretense of regularity that DC superheroes have, given that they're all in the same organization.

How slim are the chances of a Daredevil/Spidey combo film? :)

I would say virtually impossible since two different companies own the movie rights. One is Sony (Spider-Man) and I think New Line holds Daredevil. They aren't allowed to use the Kingping in Spider-Man movies because of them packing the character with the Daredevil rights, from what I read.

I don't know. I kinda want to see the Sinister Six (led by the new Green Goblin, aka Harry Osbourne) in the third movie ... assuming of course they don't kill of Dr. Octopus.

BTW, what is the deal with that, killing the villain as the plot device of almost any superhero movie? Superhero = Slayer?

Ahhh...Doc Oc...that should be fun. I would like to see the symbiots, but if we do get to see them in the 3rd film, I would only expect Venom since Carnage isn't as "poplar". Venom is just...well...Venom! Not saying I don't love Carnage. :D
And as for Doc Conner...well, he WAS mentioned by Parker in the first film. Have to listen carefully, but Parker is working with him...so who knows...might get to SEE him at least.
