Dallas, TX: Game Chest gone from Valley View Mall

View View has been facing a possible wrecking ball or total do-over since it was last sold a couple of years ago. Here is a current news item regarding the mall; reading this I had to wonder if Game Chest was still alive in there. So I guess this answers that.

It's too bad. The last time I talked their crew (when they were still operating a store in Collin Creek), they made it clear to me that they were trying to get the hell out of Valley View.

Area 51 is small, but has awesome in-store gaming support; it's almost a gaming club that also sells books & cards on the side. It's frankly hard to shop there when there's wall-to-wall gaming on weekends. I'm not saying that like it's a bad thing. ;)

Lone Star's far-flung empire is still intact as far as I am aware. Zzzzz.

The new Madness location in Plano is in fact awesome on a stick.

Still, Game Chest was a special store, and it will be missed. :.-(

I still remember going there the day after I moved to Dallas in '98. Great crew. I really hope they find another place to set up shop.

Game Closet in Waco has been open the whole 5 years I've lived here. I believe it was open for quite awhile before that, although in a different location, but still in Waco.

Just checked, they opened in Waco in 1996

I'm a friend of the owner of the Game Closet. It has been in various places around Waco for about 12-15 years. DeQuan is a great guy - he recently bought out his partner, John. They have no connection that I'm aware of to any other stores.

Q is more into the card/collectible games than the RPGs, but they have good table space and run tournaments, etc... on a regular basis. If you're ever in Waco, I strongly suggest dropping by. They're located on Franklin Ave, just down from Golden's Used Book Exchange (excellent used book/comic shop). Just take the Valley Mills exit off the interstate, turn right onto Franklin, and they're on the right at the first light after the underpass.

That is exactly right!

great store. Have the new stuff, and carry a good amount of 1e and 2e stuff as well.

I've been to Area 51 a couple of times back when I first moved to DFW... had a good experience over all but didn't have time to go a lot.

Is there any support there for non-4E and non-D&D gaming? I know they have a huge Magic and tabletop emphasis.
Last time I went in I didn't see any RPG books at first, because the shelf is so tiny now.

I'd enjoy a place for some pick up games of Pathfinder or Shadowrun or the 40k RPGs if anyone there plays them.
