If anyone here has ever played or remembered the Cyberpunk series of RPG books, then could you tell me has this progressed to a new game, or where I could find some of the old books?

The new edition of Cyberpunk has never made it off the ground, so far as I'm aware. It was intended to use the Fuzion game engine, which is, appropriately enough, a kind of a fusion of R. Tal's d10 system with the Hero System.

As far as finding CP2020 books, I believe R. Tal reprinted the game not too long ago. You should be able to find it new in online stores. Barring that, you'll definitely be able to find it, and many many supplements, used in online stores or eBay.

Cyberpunk was actually the first RPG book I ever owned (Got it for my 13th or 14th Birthday, I think). Trick is, nobody I knew played it, and the rules were -extremely- complex for a newbie. So I absorbed much of the art in to my brain, bought a few minis that I still have somewhere, and gave the book away since it was clogging my D&D shelf.

Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if I had someone to play the game with... might be on a different forum now.

Actually, the word is that Mike Pondsmith is currently putting together a new edition of Cyberpunk. Not the Fuzion rewrite of years past, mind you...an actual brand-new edition. Apparently with more focus on nanotechnology, though so far nothing concrete is known about it, including the release date.

At least, that's the rumor that some people on rpg.net gleaned from looking at Pondsmith's website.

That said, there were a whole slew of CP2020 books released by R. Talsorian, and some of them are probably still available via online stores. Used bookstores and/or gaming stores who sell used books (or just have a lot of old stock around) might also have some of them.

Still have some of the books

I still got some of the books, alot more on PDF though.
It is a difficult system when first starting out. Had to house-rule a bunch of stuff to make it easier for my old group of mainly DnD players to meld into and make since of.
Currently it all just sits and collects dust, as life is busy and the wife lets me out of my hole to play in one game now.

I have the old books and whereas I recall having fun playing, it kind of got muscled out by Shadowrun which was a bit more exciting, honestly.

I agree that Shadowrun muscled it out but I still preferred CP2020 to SR based on its grittiness. No magical healing or astral sensing in CP2020. SR seemed to still have the usual "party" mentality of D&D whereas in my personal experience CP2020 games were "every man for himself" with the characters teaming up only if there was an advantage. I'll never forget my first game of SR... I was playing a Street Samurai and had been shot up into unconsiousness. The mage decided to assist my healing with some magic but then helped himself to some of my credits to pay for the services rendered. I demanded them back, I was healing just fine in the hospital. Besides, he didn't ask if he could have the credits so I saw it as stealing. Of course he agreed because I had my manhunter pistol to his forehead but then the idot starts jabbering about how he'll put the word out about how he'd been treated and that I'd never get another mage to ever work for me again. I told him that he was right... and that I couldn't risk the word getting out so I shot him point blank in the forehead. Both the GM and the other player had to pick their jaws up off the floor. I thought I was playing the game the way it was supposed to be played... CP2020 style. That was when I was informed that it is more party based. :)

By the way, you should be able to buy the books here:

I love CP2020 and still do. My group however does not have a cyberpunk sort of mind so we don't play. I think my only problem with the system that made it horribly unbalanced is you could armor up enough that nothing short of Hvy machine guns much bothered you. Have to keep an eye on that side. It wasn't a perfect system but it was fun.

I'm on the team that has been contracted to write the material between CyberPunk 2020 and CyberPunk 3.

CyberPunk 3 is indeed back in production - Mike Pondsmith is now only part-time with MS, and has again devoted time to R.Talsorian Games finally.

Social Games has been publishing the CyberPunk CCG, and they are the ones to be publishing the story-arc between CyberPunk 2020 and Cyberpunk 3.

As indicated, CyberPunk 2020 was reprinted a few times in the past 6 years, and some supplements are also still floating around out there. There are also full & partial sets going up for auction on eBay on a regular basis.

My old CyberPunk 2020 fansite is still on-line too... www.ambient.ca/cpunk - and we (E.N.Publishing) have launched New Tribes, a series of d20 products to support the New Tribes d20 future setting that we are gunning to publish in 2005 - it is the setting that the old BlackHammer crew ran and developed over the past 10 years.

Contracted to write material for a Fuzion-based CP, or material for an upgrade to the Interlock system?
