D&D 5E Combining Mighty Fortress, Druid Grove, and Temple of the Gods

For actually defensive purposes Temple of the Gods is better then Mighty Fortress, without a disintergate spell you aren't destroying the temple or ramaging Dragons, Giants, most fiends aren't going to be able to destroy it. Catapults aren't going to be able to destroy it.

The Door locks and can't be opened by anyone you didn't give premission to when the spell was cast.

If that wasn't enough any type of Elementals, Fiends, Celestials, Fey and Undead can be blocked out, they have to make a save to get in and then are penalized by 1d4 if they manage to get in.

Of course the only way they can get in is somekind of teleportation Magic or a disguise so that tricks someone into letting them in.

They also can't use the Ethereal Plane to get in.

Divination spells are useless again it innhabitants.

And healing spells are slightly buffed.

MIghty Fortress does none of that, it just has stone walls. Its still a cool spell, but it should be called Mighty Banquet Hall and Inn.

I’m not a fan of these spells. One of the things I enjoyed about high level play in AD&D were the castle and keep construction rules and guidelines. These spells, especially fortress, make much of that moot. And the material cost is insignificant. So I have visions of high level mages charging 10 grand for an instant keep all over the place. Major profit for them, but a fraction of traditional costs.

Absolutely agreed, and I cynically feel like these spells are being put forth to offer the most meagre of offerings to people who want their own fortresses so that they don’t actually have to write sensible rules for them.

I don’t follow this. I can get why a few individual spells could be unpalatable to some, such as those mentioned here, but overall I have found spells in this edition to be kind of weak sauce compared to previous editions. And that includes the spells found in Xanthar’s guide.

Probably because most of the unpalatable ones are high level spells that Wizards didn’t feel like balancing because they’re high level and thus of no importance to the designers. Spells like the three listed above, wish, simulacrum, forcecage etc. have long been known to be out of line. Most people don’t have a problem with low level magic because at least there its power level is still somewhat sane.

I'm not sure I agree. Many of the "dud" spells are high level ones. It is only the useful ones that stand out in comparison. Forcecage, simularcum, & wish have always been powerful spells, they just stand out because the rest of the options at their respective levels are kind of trash. You have things like MordenKanin's Sword, Weird and the like, that aren't really worth any consideration. I mean, you have spells that are several levels higher than Fireball, but struggle to match that spell for damage or even utility. Obviously, YMMV, but casting a sixth level spell (and injuring yourself while doing it), to crate a loyal creature with low stealth, no invisibility, and low survivability (that you can enhance by giving up your own hit points), that you can scry through does not sound terribly useful to and adventuring wizard.

"Each 10-foot-by-10-foot section of stone has AC 15 and 30 hit points per inch of thickness." So that's 30x12=360 HP per 10x10 ft section.

Ok, so it will take the giant more than a round to bust through. They aren't Styrofoam blocks, great!

But 1 foot thick isn't that thick when you are talking about fortifications....

Darn, those were times back then when you had to use multiple wish spells including the risks involved with them to do such stunts :)
