Cohort's wealth question

One of my PCs has gained the Leadership feat, and I'm just seeking clarification of the equipment the cohort can buy.

It's a 10th level cohort. Does it get starting wealth as a PC (49,000), or as an NPC (16,000)?

Based on the last few times this was asked, people are having trouble finding commentary in the 3.5 rules.

You should re-think that.

Providing equipment will drain the PC's own resources, making them less powerful than they should be. Check out those wealth by level charts. The CRs are (supposed to be) balanced according to that wealth chart.

Actually, it's the same problem in 3.0e

In 3.5e, this "Cohorts get NPC wealth by level" rule is in the......wait fer it......the Attracting Cohorts section, p. 107 DMG. That is to say, it's in the very same section as it was in 3.0e.

Only: it's written better.

The problem, as has been confirmed, is that it's not in the SRD 3.5e...at least not in an easily remembered location. Anyone care to find it?
