Anyone know of any good Necromancy websites/books?

Hello to all who can help. My friend and I are working on a new world with a new kind of way to use classes with d20 (its akin to Baldur's Gate: DA for those who have played that game and know how those classes work).

We are looking for some good Necromancy abilities and some good guidelines for having a game mechanic that the necromancer, because he is tapping into negative energies, gets twisted over the course of time in either temporary or permanent ways. I have the Necromancy college book from Green Ronin, and I have looked at the other Necromancy book by another company (can't remember the name of company), but so far we have only few ideas for the kind of necromancer we are wanting to create.

Basically, our Necromancer is going to be a person that dabbles with negative energy and its this negative energy that provides it much of its abilities. Most to all abilities the necromancer gets are probably going to be similar to spell-like abilities. Anyways, with our world the way we are going, the farther along the necromancer goes (higher in level), the more twisted and evil he becomes. The negative powers being used corrupt his soul eventually and it shows in physical ways. That's all I can think of for now, but I wanted to provide some information so if anybody knows of any other good books on necromancy and/or websites that provide different takes on it, I would really appreciate it greatly.

I'm guessing that the other necromancy book you looked at was Encyclopedia Arcane - Necromancy: Beyond the Grave from Mongoose Publishing, yes?

I'd recommend that book either way. It has some of what your looking for, in that you get physically twisted by using the negative energy over time. Between that and Secret College of Necromancy, I can't really imagine what else you might need specifically for that.

It sounds to me like you want to change how the magic is used (with it being spell-like abilities and not just spells). In which case there are some other books that rework how magic is done, such as Natural 20 Press's Elements of Magic.

What about looking into the necromancer handbook for 2nd edition? They do mention about the side effects of using necromancy. Might be a good place to start if you can find it.

Also there is the pdf of Librum of Gar'Udock by Ambient but I do not know if it has any side effects. Ravenloft has some descent into darkness rules as does WFRP and the 2e Complete Necromancers Handbook which is available from svgames.com in their WotC downloads section.

Ambient used to have a conversion on their website of the 1e death master who worshipped orcus and got more evil with every level. I don't know if that is still there.

Necromancy: Beyond the Grave precisely fits this description... there are a number of necromancy feats that slowly twist the caster.

This book is expanded and is at the printer now called Necromancer's Legacy from Mystic Eye Games and should be at stores around the New Year.

Have fun and good gaming.

necromancy books

the best necromancy book is the NECRONOMICON referenced in the Bruce Campbell evil dead movie.

but I think the "Hollowfaust" city book for the Scarred Lands should help a lot as will Relics and Rituals I & II

thanks

thanks for the ideas I have some idea on what I am going to be doing with it.

Thanks to all for the suggestions, I shall have to check some of them out.

Also, if you want some necromancy without the full 'Necromancy' package, check out Blight Magic by Mystic Eye Games.

It certainly is Evil, and Horrid, and has links to 'decay and death' because magic leeches the land. ANd it also wears down the user.
