An item of Spiritual Weapon

Hey, everyone. Let's say someone makes an item that casts Spiritual Weapon 1/day or something. Since it's a magic item, it would be cast at the minimum for everything- 3th level caster, and so on. That means that for determining a caster level check for overcoming Spell Resistance or something, it'd only have a +3 bonus. However, what would the attack bonus of the spell be?

The item uses the Base Attack Bonus of the caster, plus the caster's Wisdom bonus. Since it's a second level spell, it would have a mere +1 from Wisdom, but it would only have a +2, since it uses a 3rd-level Cleric to cast it. Does this mean that an item that casts Spiritual Weapon would only have a +3 to attack? Or would it use the user's Base Attack Bonus instead?

You need to be minumum Caster Level 5 to take Craft Magic Arms and Armor, so it would have a minumum +3 BaB and last at least 5 rounds (assuming a cleric made this).

Cool Factor: Make it an intellegent item with high wisdom; ergo, high ego. Use the item's Wisdom modifier, and give it a fair BaB of... say... 6 (9th level creator). I can sooooo see this thing going places :).

Thank you for making me think of that. Here's a kuponut for you. Let me file that under "Cool Things I Will Have My Players Encounter."

An item that casts Spiritual Weapon 1/day at minimum level would be no different (spell mechanicswise) than a Spiritual Weapon cast from a wand at minimum level.

Spiritual Weapon cast in this way would last 3 rounds, attack once/round, have an attack bonus of +3 (Wis 12 minimum, +2 BAB for 3rd level cleric), and do 1d8+1 damage on a successful hit. Now the threat range would vary depending on the deity worshiped by the cleric who initially created the item.

Don't forget that magic items and the abilities of magic items are not required to be at minimum level, but that is the cheapest way to go.

First off, you can make magic items at any caster level you want, as long as it's not lower than the minimum needed to cast the spell. You could very easily make a Wondrous Item that casts Magic Missile as a 1st-level caster, or a Cure Moderate Wounds item at 3rd caster level- but you couldn't make an item that uses Lightning Bolt from a 2nd-level caster, because you have to be at least 5th level to cast the spell.

Second, when you make a magic item, your current ability scores (Wisdom for a Cleric) has no impact on the item's DC. The item uses the minimum for the spell- if you're making an item that casts a 2nd-level spell, for example, the DC would be 10 (base) + 2 (spell level) + 1 (since 12 is the lowest Wisdom score possible to cast a 2nd level spell, and 12 has a +1 modifier) for a total of 13. The caster could have a Wisdom of 10,000, for all I care- if he made an item of it, it would only be a DC 13.
