Adamantine Armor & Barbarian Damage Reduction

So, does barbarian damage reduction stack with the damage reduction granted by adamantine armor?

I can't seem to find any rules stating one way or the other.

And you probably won't, either, since it is poorly documented. In my campaigns, I generally allow "unrestricted" DR (Like the Barbarian, Dwarven Defender, Templar [DotF], Survivor [SS], etc.) to stack with each other, as would the DR from adamantine armor. Honestly, I can't imagine the extra point or two coming off each physical attack breaking the game in any significant manner. After all, at the point where these issues come into play, energy attacks and spell effects that ignore DR are very common, and even the humble melee strike usually comes with staggering amounts of punishments, so why put the screws to the PCs over this small a point?

I'm not sure how much clearer it could get - from the SRD:

"If a creature has damage reduction from more than one source, the two forms of damage reduction do not stack. Instead, the creature gets the benefit of the best damage reduction in a given situation."

-Hyp.

Feel the burn! :)

Honestly though, if you're gonna say something is "poorly documented" make damn sure you've searched pretty hard beforehand...

However, I don't find it to be unbalanced to allow such comparatively-small damage reduction sources to stack.

If a Barbarian WANTS to spend ten thousand GP or more, to get 3/- of extra DR ... *shrug* ...

I've been waiting for that answer! thanks Smurf.

I guess I could have read thru the SRD, just haven't had time :)

I don't know about that. DR 3/- is comparitively small, but I don't think DR 6/- is.
Barbarian dwarven defender with adamantite armour...
Perhaps some silly DR feats?

Do adamantite shields give more DR?

Many small rats make a huge pile of s***.

No stacking in my games.

Well, IMO, the reason barbarians get DR in the first place is so they don't have to wear significant armor, if any at all. To let the DR stack would mean all barbarians will want to run around in admantite armor. Is that really what you want?

I'd rather maintian the light/no armor style of the barbarian as a Conan-type who runs around in little or nothing, cleaving through masses of evil beasties. Not as an armored tank like most fighters.

Besides, what armor are you imagining them getting in adamantite? Breastplate? Chain shirt?
