D&D 5E According to the Hasbro Q1 earning call D&D sales are up substantially.

According to the Hasbro Q1 earning call D&D revenue are up substantially.

Okay so WotC as a whole is up 46%, magic the Gathering is up 45%, so the bulk of that MtG, but the fact that no new digital game releases have occurred means that to not have D&D revenue pulling down WotC's as a whole's numbers lower then MtGs, means that D&D sales & revenue had to have had a substantial increase.

This undermines rumours that D&D is in trouble.

Hasbro Reports First Quarter 2025 Financial Results

  • Wizards of the Coast and Digital Gaming Segment
    • Revenue increased 46% behind strong growth in MAGIC: THE GATHERING, ongoing momentum in digital and licensed gaming and DUNGEONS & DRAGONS.
    • MAGIC: THE GATHERING revenue increased 45% with growth in tabletop and ARENA.
    • Monopoly Go! contributed $39M of revenue in the quarter.
    • Operating profit increased 87% and operating margin was 49.8%, up 11.0 points due to business mix.
So my previous pessimism around the loss of so many D&D designer veterans appears to be unwarranted after all.

For MtG fans I'll note that I don't think this includes FF set sales, which are absolutely insane, so Q2 could be vastly bigger then this, as are prices.

The wording implies, "strong growth in ... Dungeons & Dragons".

5e 2024 seems to be looking good financially.

If D&D sales fell, while they were releasing new corebooks...I would have been excessively surprised. In fact, that would be almost certain doom on these rulesets if that had happened.

That sales are up doesn't paint the whole picture though. That they didn't mention how much it was up in specific terms for D&D may mean it isn't as rosy as some may think, though it obviously isn't as bad as some have stated most likely.

Not sure that D&D did much, while there is no new digital game, the largest part of growth outside of MtG was licensing.

Not sure how MtG splits between tabletop and digital. D&D sales are majority DDB by now, I think WotC said 60% either in Q3 or Q4 of last year, so the 1% digital increase should include the majority of D&D sales (DDB).

If I understand your post correctly and you are saying that 'D&D is keeping up with the MtG 45% growth' then that does not appear to be reflected by this breakdown.

The report speaks about what happened in the past few months, before their departure. And the fact that Hasbro is making money and sales could reassure you on some aspects of D&D's future (will their release more content, be more ambitious, etc) but I see very little overlap with the worries that could come from the leadership of the team leaving.

Is MtG & D&D falling under Wizards Table Top? Because you really can't tell from that table.

Paper is blended in Tabletop, and Arena & Beyond is in Digital, then it's not really useful because it doesn't separate things by IP. Not sure what FX is.

Hasbro does not make that very clear, I would assume they are split across the two for physical vs digital products. Maybe all of it is in tabletop, given that all the growth is on that side that too is an option, not sure what makes up digital then however.

In any case, both categories grew by less than the 45% that MtG grew by, so D&D did not keep up with MtG regardless of where you place it. If you place it all in tabletop, then D&D grew by maybe 5% to arrive at the overall 38%, given the size difference between it and MtG

Not sure what FX is.
