D&D 5E 5E Survivor - Subclasses (Part VI: Fighters)

Arcane Archer 17
Battle Master 23
Brute 16+1=17 Does what the Champion should have done in closer balance to the Battlemaster.
Cavalier 18
Champion 19-2=17 At level 11 with a greatsword the crit-bonus outdamages the Battlemaster once you hit round 27 of combat per short rest. Core feature very bad.
Echo Knight 17
Eldritch Knight 24
Knight 20
Monster Hunter 20
Psi Warrior 18
Purple Dragon Knight 16
Rune Knight 20
Samurai 20
Scout 15
Sharpshooter 20

Edit: 26 rounds, forgot about action surge.

The reasons you give for certain playtests not making it to final print are all matters of opinion, though. We can only speculate about WotC's decision-making process to get to that point.

The Knight was included for the sake of completeness. I agree that it was probably a first pass at Cavalier, and feels redundant...but since I have made the decision to allow UA content, I have to include all of it. Otherwise I'd be cherry-picking the list, and I don't wanna be That Guy.

Ya'll are gonna love it when we get to Mystic. :)

I will be very, very, very surprised to see an Unearthed Arcana make it all the way to the finals, and not just because of the bias against Unearthed Arcana materials. Most of the best options have been refined and published elsewhere, which is the whole entire point of a playtest.

If nothing else, I like how the UA entries give everyone something to focus their downvotes on in the early stages of the contest, which allows some of the other newcomers a chance to build support before they get blasted away by the "PHB Only" crowd.
I just checked and you forgot the College of Satire in the Bard thread :p

Well crud. There's just no other way around it, we are going to redo the Bard thread.

Sometime around Year 2026 I think. At the earliest.

(Seriously, I can't believe I missed one. I was being so careful! But no retcons; the Lore Bard will stand.)

5E subclasses are like cockroaches...there are hundreds of them, and just when you think you've gotten them all another one crops up. And to think, there are people playing the game who honestly believe we need even more of them!

Since I've been posting homebrew I like for these, here's the Variant Fighter by Vorpal Dice Press. After several years of using the vanilla Fighter, I used this one in a Ghost of Saltmarsh campaign, and it worked really, really well. One thing I didn't like about the new fighters is they took the one really great fightery thing (Maneuvers) and gave them to only one subclass. The Variant Fighter takes them and spreads them out to other subclasses, and then introduces a Tactician who focuses more on the "strategist" part of Battle Master. Highly recommended.
