D&D 5E (2024) GMs: How long should it usually take to go from level 1 to 4?

Generally I want, assuming a level 1 start, to level up at the end of that first session. From there on, 2-5 sessions per level, depending on progress and party vibe.

I really enjoyed the book, interested to see the movie and what changes

    D&D 5E (2024) Let's Write A High Level Adventure

Sure, but I'd argue that an adventure should sell itself as a standalone first, as a "here's a high-level module that a prospective GM can buy and run" is a wider audience than "This module might help you continue your ongoing campaign"

    D&D 5E (2024) Let's Write A High Level Adventure

That was more my 3.5 and 4e experience, it has not been my 5e experience. A GM ran Curse of Strahd, we made PCs for it, retired them at the end of the module, then switched GMs and game systems. When the pandemic started, I made an online group, and I ran Dragonheist. PCs were made for the...

D&D General Wildly Diverse "Circus Troupe" Adventuring Parties

Sorry, but I love the whacky Mos Eisley cantina, circus troupe vibe, it's what I like about DnD. My two current campaigns don't have a single human ... the closest is a Half-Elf in my Daggerheart campaign, and an Orc (with two Dragonborn and a Tabaxi) in the Rime of the Frostmaiden adventure I'm in.

    D&D 5E (2024) Let's Write A High Level Adventure

IME, modules are generally run stand alone ... ie, unless we're talking a series of adventures designed to link together in a campaign, players make a PC for the module. Conceptually, I liked Eye of Vecna's idea of having a multiplanar adventure, I feel like a high-tier adventure should feel...

D&D General Highest level PC you've achieved.

3.5 ... 3rd, maybe 5th level? 4e ... This is an odd one, we had a rotating DMing group and after a TPK we created new PCs at the next level and continued playing, but it was one campaign and we got up to level 13 - 15. 5e ... 11th level. Curse of Strahd.

D&D General XP: How Do You Like To Earn It?

Since we don't track XP, only milestones notable enough to cause a level up are noted. I generally don't care to track XP granularly, so I'm in the 1983 camp. It's fun for a CRPG to watch the bar fill up, but not worth the math and leads to XP farming at the table. Ironically, when I've...

Modules: Made to Read vs Made to Run?

There's a skill to reading. That recipe for engineers scrambled my brain, and while I got it after a moment, I'm used to reading more conventional recipes, and that grid was not noticeably easier for me to understand. I used to navigate via those map books, but I also once nearly gave a friend a...

Spoilers TV Shows with Great Endings

Which ... I call BS on Mal. But also primarily on Joss, because this was just ickily done. I'll admit it's been a minute, but what I remember of Mal's jibes at Inara is that that is splitting a hair and still calling it a gross word for a sex worker. Also, the episodes themselves never sold the...

Spoilers TV Shows with Great Endings

Since this got bumped ... Andor really synched up nicely into Rogue One, and served as a solid ending to itself. Would I love to see more from the characters that survived? Yes. But I am ... satisfied with what I got.
