Nope, the Hellwasp (a.k.a. Hellwasp Devil) is a full-sized devil first appearing in 4E's Monster Manual 3. Wouldn't be surprised if the 4E version (which was carried on to 5E) was inspired by the 3.5 Monster Manual Hellwasp swarm, though.

I really hope xag-ya/xeg-yi are updated when we (hopefully) get Planescape 5e. I once made a particularly cunning trap in 3e consisting of xag-ya and xeg-yi separated by a walls of force, and a dangling rod of cancellation that threatened to remove a particularly critical wall of force if the characters weren't careful. Basically, I figured that the mutual annihilation feature of xag-ya and xeg-yi was pretty well meaningless in that could almost never naturally come into play, so I decided that it was time to force the issue. Oh, the explosions that occurred!

There have been (at least) three different hellwasps. There is a diminutive hellwasp which comes in swarms in the Monster Manual v.3.5 (2003). Next was the medium-sized hellwasp from the D&D Miniatures: Against the Giants set (2008) (RPG stats for which are available here). Then the hellwasp devils in the Monster Manual 3 (2010) of which there are both a medium and large sized versions.

The 5th Edition version from Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus seems to be closest to the Monster Manual 3 version.

Those look like pretty decent conversions. Thanks for posting them! Might go for radiant rather than lightning for the xag-ya though...
