Throwing enchantment

Throwing: This enchantment can only be placed on a melee weapon. A melee weapon enchanted with this ability gains a range increment of 10 feet and can be thrown by a wielder proficient in its normal use.

Returning: This enchantment can only be placed on a weapon that can be thrown. A returning weapon returns through the air back to the creature that threw it. It returns on the round following the round that it was thrown just before its throwing creature's turn. It is therefore ready to use again that turn.

Can melee weapons not be thrown without this enchantment? Can you not throw a dagger or warhammer that does not have this enchantment?

Could the following weapon be thrown?

A melee weapon without the throwing enchantment would basically be an improvised thrown weapon. You would get -4 to your attacks, because you're not proficient in that sort of use. A melee weapon that has the returning enchantment, but not throwing, would still be an improvised weapon, but one that comes back to you.

A case could be made that a say, greatsword, is not a throwing weapon (ie no range increment, etc) and as such couldn't be Returning.
I mean a bow could be a thrown weapon if you want I guess, but it doesn't really fit too well. Plus what mage would enchant a Warhammer or Greatsword of Returning? Doesn't seem to be a point (unless he was like a mad wizard or something, in which case it might be kinda cool).

Hmm... Exotic Weapon Profficiency:Greatsword, Craft Magic Weapons, Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, etc....

Hope this nut-case wizard has a lot of strength.
