Tabletop projcetion

Hi All!

My group is looking at the possibility of using a beamer for tabletop projection.
Does anybody have experience with various models?
What I am looking for is a good feeling with the various values like resolution, brightness, contrast ratio etc.
As always we don't want to invest more than needed but I rather spend a few bucks extra for something functional than be stuck with a solution that ends up unusable.

There used to be a long multipage page thread that had the ultimate game table. This thread discussed projectors and using projection for game maps. Maybe somebody can post a link to it since I am unable to search.
