spells that use more than one school

Has anyone ever made a spell system where some more difficult spells were made with more than one school? It strikes me that I've read several books where that's how magic operates....Steven Erickson's Malazan books, for example.

Not sure what the in-game effects would be; perhaps a player would have varying degrees of skill with each scool. It might also need a mana/spell points system for each scool.

Do you mean spells that required more than one school, or spells that could be cast under more than one school?

If you mean required, then I don't know why this would end up being more difficult, except perhaps for specialists.

Can you give an example of such a spell, so I can see what you're getting at?

(Are you talking about something like a lightning bolt that turns people into frogs? This would mix evocation and transmutation, but I'm just not sure I'm following you.)

I've considered doing something similar, but the number of spells that would use it would be small enough that I decided not to bother. Example: a spell (originally appearing on WotC's D&D web page) to change the mentality of the subject to that of another creature (but not its physical form). The example spell would seem to dwell in a vague wasteland between the borders of Transmutation and Enchantment. I eventually shrugged and agreed with Wizards that it was Transmutation.
