Shadow mage specialist PrCs/feats?

I'm looking at making a wizard who's a specialist in shadow and similar spells. I know there's a gnome-only PrC focused on it in Races of Stone, but any other class or feat suggestions?

Ask your DM to waive the gnome-only restriction?

I'm looking to play a gnome, actually--I'm mainly interested in finding other things that could augment that class's own improvements.

Take those Gnome Illusionist substitution levels. Take the Illusionist specialty abilities in Unearthed Arcana (look for them here), in whatever combination of flavours you want. Make sure you have Silent/Minor Image mastered, doesn't matter if comes from Illusion Mastery or from Spell Mastery. Take Earth Magic and fill the bottom of your boots with soil for cheesy goodness (or just stay on the ground if you're not so inclined). Take Signature Spell for Silent Image. Finally, take Heighten Spell.

Now take the third level of Shadowcraft Mage, and go to town emulating Evocation and Conjuration spells of your choice at will, now with hightened DCs because they're all illusion based and use those DCs even though you're emulating other schools of magic. Your Earth Magic feat will boost Silent Image's spell level by one automaticly, thus allowing you to emulate any spell of the maximum level you can cast by heightening it when you sub a spell out for Silent Image and the further subbing it for Shadow Mage's 3'rd level ability. Spice with Shadowcrafter from the Underdark book, combined with Shadowcraft Mage's 5'th level ability, for unreal levels of simulated reality.

Makes one Killer Gnome. Trademarked by Snow Savant.

The 3.0 FRCS has the Shadow Adept, and IIRC it is very powerful but also holds many prerequisites. However it has a strong connection to the setting, being a devout follower of Shar and having abilities related to the shadow weave, so it may not necessarily fit in your campaign.

I am sure this is not what you're looking for, but I played a shadow wizard in early 3.0 days, I only used PHB material, and I just altered the description of all my spells so that they had a shadowy appearance (without changing the mechanics).
