This should also be fairly easy as a wizard by raising a child from birth with alittle brain washing you could easily prep your sacrifice. And build a few very loyal guards.

Ok, Back on Subject...

Was there a conscious effort to leave longevity effects out of 3e? Or maybe they were just left out to save space?

One of the classic fantasy cliches is the impossibly old wizard. I have one of these guys in my game, but no game mechanic to explain it.
