Entangle spell

Question

First Post
"The creature can break free and move half its normal speed"

Does this mean that, for a creature with 30 ft base speed, it can ONLY move 15 ft on the turn it breaks free?

Can said creature use the run action to move 3x or 4x his normal speed then factor in the 50% speed reduction from the spell?

... Run is a full-round action, so you can't do it the round you break free.
You can't run at all. :heh:

You can't run while in the area of an Entangle, regardless of saving throws or ability checks:

You can’t run or charge through any square that would hamper your movement.

And yes, because of the wide area that Entangle covers, it's quite possible to break free, move, and still be in the area to have to make a save again next time the caster's turn rolls around.

And people have the nerve to call Magic Missile the most powerful first level spell!

At least the poor sucker gets to move. As nasty as entangle is for its level, Evard's Black Tentacles is 10 times worse. Breaking free from that is a full round action- you can't move at all then it just grapples again before you can move. Evil spell. :]

.....they've not see Entangle in action! IMO, Entangle should have a 20' r. AoE, not 40'r.

My Druid used it 3 times and it was underwhelming in each occasion.

As a practical matter, enemies that do not have good ranged attacks tend to have good Reflex saves. Not always, but often

Entangling an enemy with a decent ranged attack is often not a net benefit. Now you cannot engage him in melee.
