Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

Beleriphon

Totally Awesome Pirate Brain
My mini painting and terrain crafting is proudly "table-ready." I know my skill level is never going to get past a certain level (though occasionally I accidentally do something that looks better than my typical work) but my philosophy is I'd rather have a ton of mediocre "good enough" paint jobs on my minis than a pile of unpainted ones.
I'm fan of Battle Ready in Games Workshop parlance. They're good enough to look good from five feet away. I'll take my time and get something Parade Ready when it's a big centre piece, like Lion El'Jonson.

I also appreciate the slightly more risqué nature of a few of the sculpts. Some of those merfolk are a bit NSFW, as are the imps. And I felt like I had really arrived as a miniatures painter when I found myself gently dry brushing Demogorgon's junk.

Yeah, it's stupidly big. I have quite a few large and huge-sized spiders, but this was the first one that really feels like an epic encounter. That said, I'm super arachnophobic so I was creeped out the whole time I painted it.

I got multiple sets of the transparent blue nymphs and the underwear-catalogue demons - I really need to practice my highlighting on flesh some more. I can do okay on nice visible muscles with sharp delineation, but softer curves still tend to elude me, mostly in making sure my layers of shading don't look like a topography map.

Years ago, back before the kickstarters, Reaper used to occasionally put out an "Urban Legend" version of some of the sculpts of their mascot Sophie that they did, which had her minus whatever costume she was wearing in the original. I used to have all of them, but I had to sell them off over the years and haven't managed to find any of them for sale online since then.

I just did a quick check and while I didn't see anything labelled "urban legend", they have a page and a bit full of various Sophies on their website.
