    Daggerheart Discussion

There may be some people not familiar with Daggerheart in the thread, so I thought I'd clarify this in case they don't know. Characters have an ability called proficiency that determines the number of dice they roll for damage. Proficiency starts at 1, and increases to 6 by the highest Tier...

Daggerheart reveals Hope & Fear cover artwork and release date

Watched the video for it and it looks fantastic. I purchased the set with the GM screen because I thought I would be running it. Have to come up with an excuse to add another game.

    Daggerheart Discussion

Having run a bunch of the Quickstart adventures, and played in a game that ended at level 3, I think the game absolutely can run a generic AP completely fine. As I've said (and I didn't invent this idea), if you run Daggerheart that way, you end up with a better 5E. Running it much more free...

    Daggerheart Discussion

That's an excellent example! I absolutely love Outgunned but it's much lighter than most games. And yet keeps with the adventure/danger theme excellently. I actually have a friend who's running a session at Gamehole Con this year. Have played it and it was a blast as a one-shot.

    Daggerheart Discussion

I am going to run an in-person game this year, and ran a number of test sessions for the group. Two of them were Daggerheart and 13th Age. I found that for practical purposes, both games had equivalent movement rules. The difference is that Daggerheart has some optional rules for a more...

    Daggerheart Discussion

Just to talk a bit about why Daggerheart has so much combat focus for characters. It does because that's the kind of game it is. The rules themselves tell you what kind of a game you're getting: And if you think about it, games similar to Daggerheart could all say that. There absolutely are...

    Daggerheart Discussion

I definitely get that, and I've heard it from more than one person. In CR's defense (and they don't need me defending them) I'd say that CR is the largest thing in RPG circles outside of WotC. It's huge. And changing it up to a new system would be a tall order. And they didn't know that it would...

    Daggerheart Discussion

The biggest development for Daggerheart will be when the first supplement comes out. As much as we'd like to have a regular release of products, this is a small company, and putting together a big supplement is a heavy undertaking. If I had a complaint about Daggerheart, I'd say that the...

    Daggerheart Discussion

I am not sure that a starting character versus a level 3 D&D character is anything approximating first session Daggerheart character. And yet ... I've run the Quickstart for Daggerheart four times now, and it's been exciting and dynamic each time. The key is that the GM in Daggerheart is...

D&D 5E (2024) DnD 5e designer [Mike Mearls] explains how INDIE RPGs are taking over

My take for a long time is: play what you like. Investigate new games, be curious and not judgmental ;) . And support development. Maybe it will be something you really like, or maybe you'll just encourage someone to stay in the hobby, but new games are the lifeblood of continuing to keep people...

Dungeon Crawl Classics What is cool to you from a player perspective?

I'd call DCC something it's really fun to do in a one-shot setting, but not something I'd want to play a campaign of. I've played a couple of funnels, and the best one was run in the modern era with a slasher/cthuhlu cultist mentality. Our funnel characters were members of different social...

Judges Guild Makes Statement About Goodman Controversy [Updated]

This thread being updated gave me hope on release info for the project. Sad noises from me.

When the top sci-fi RPG meets the top fantasy RPG

This is really interesting. I would not have imagined that there would be this much Traveller support in 2026. Makes my heart feel good. I will be really surprised to see what this looks like. 5E and classic Traveller are separated by a huge gulf in terms of gameplay, so I'd think you'd either...

What I Like About Nimble 2e (So Far) — A Partial Review

Definitely. To me it is also creating a powerful incentive for a particular playstyle. You are going to be up in the face of the bad guys, and if they're attacking you, you're hurting them back. It makes me wonder how this will make the GM adjust their playstyle. I'm really going to have to see...

What I Like About Nimble 2e (So Far) — A Partial Review

The way Radiant Judgement works is whenever you're attacked, if you don't have any judgement dice, you roll them. The next time you attack you cause that much extra damage if you hit. Hit or not, they're expended. Is that too good? Don't know. Thinking about it, you don't get it until you're...
