D&D General The rapier in D&D

From reading about the Grey Mouser, it can be an effective weapon against pretty much any enemy. Edited to add: the Mouser did encounter a dragon, but he tried to steal from it rather than fight it.

Marvel Multiverse RPG is now available in PDF.

That's good to know. There was an epub kindle version you could get through Amazon, and I watched a review of the game using that and ... it was horrible.

Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes of the Borderlands - First Impressions

For what it's worth, I always do that too. I think B1 is "the forgotten module."

Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes of the Borderlands - First Impressions

It might be helpful for others but I was thinking of my DM for my group who only has the base D&D system. Good to know they could run the set with just that. Thanks so much!

Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes of the Borderlands - First Impressions

That sounds great. Could you run this with just the base D&D module, or do you need the PHB etc? As an aside: I love the work the Foundry folks do. If you're designing for a VTT I highly recommend looking at what they do. It's normally the gold standard.

What gets me playing Draw Steel and not Pathfinder 2e?

I haven't played a Thaumaturge yet, but I've seen them in play at lower levels. I play a rogue, and I have a lot of options in combat, but the one I need to do each round to be effective is "attack an opponent who is off-guard" much of the time, I do this by moving into a flank position. So...

Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes of the Borderlands - First Impressions

I thought this might be useful to people, but I didn't want to make a whole new thread. There is a Foundry module available for the Starter Set. This will let those of you who play online try out the set. Here's the link. The set is $20. I haven't purchased it, so I can't comment on the quality...

Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes of the Borderlands - First Impressions

I am with you that the Caves should certainly be run with a less than absolute black and white morality system. I've had a paladin risk losing their abilities for not killing non-combatants such as children, but there is a fair bit of the notion that it's good versus bad. Here's from the...

    Hit points as luck

I think that hit points (and by this I mean escalating hit points, not static ones like in BRP) are like a good soup or stew: they are made up of a lot of different ingredients. You have your physical durability, your luck, your fate, your plot armor, your endurance, your fate of the gods ...

    Common Pitfalls in Game Design

I know it might seem like a lot, but playing many different games (or, at the very least reading them) is fun. I know that there are dozens of influential games out there, and I hope some of the folks reading this thread will add their suggestions, but I have five games to check out to get a...

Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes of the Borderlands - First Impressions

I'll just say that this looks like D&D with some cool bits and bobbles, and not just an extension of the old D&D board games. I have played all of them and they aren't D&D. They are a board game with some elements from D&D, typically 4E. From what I've seen of the new beginners box, it actually...

    Common Pitfalls in Game Design

People who've only played one game, like D&D think they have invented something new when they are likely just going over well-trodden ground. There are plenty of games that don't have classes or levels and don't use a D20 or any number of other things that games other than D&D have done since...

    What's Your Price Limit?

Oh I definitely get where you're coming from. That's honestly why I have an iPad. I'm going to be playing a bunch of Pathfinder at the upcoming Gamehole Con, and I'll bring printouts of my character, but also have everything, including the rules, on that. I get to play in person only once in a...

    What's Your Price Limit?

I'm finding this to be increasingly true. I don't buy a lot of physical books anymore because I have limited space for them. So I'll buy a PDF most of the time. If I'm getting something physical to put in the bookshelf, it should be special. Or something I really treasure. So a book like Wildsea...

Ben Riggs: 'The Golden Age of TTRPGs is Dead'

I definitely agree. I think you could make an argument for what makes something a golden age, but you'd likely just get disagreement about it. You sort of only know what a golden age is when it's gone. At least that's what my literary references and bad country songs say. I'm sort of waiting...

Ben Riggs: 'The Golden Age of TTRPGs is Dead'

If this is going to be anything other than people's opinions, you have to come up with a metric for what the "golden age" means. Is it Kickstarters over 1 million? Is it people playing online through game portal or VTTs? Is it Influencer engagements? Or con registrations? I don't know, and I...

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I really like this whole thing. But this part reminds me of Darkest Dungeon, one of my favorite and most quotable RPG computer games of all time, so ... bravo!

Ben Riggs: 'The Golden Age of TTRPGs is Dead'

As this year continues, I feel more and more that it's one of the best years ever for TTRPGs.

Daggerheart "Description on Demand" a GM DON'T

This is so important. I'm 100% in the play how you and your group want to. And but as soon as you start saying "this other way? The way the game you're playing is designed for? That's wrong," I will say you're objectively wrong. I don't say that very often, and in fact I've had a couple of...

Daggerheart "Description on Demand" a GM DON'T

Ultimately that's what you have to do in any situation like this. If you're playing a game and one player has an issue with the game, you should work to accommodate everyone's tastes, but in the end, sometimes you have to let a person go. One example I can think of that made its way into game...
