What WotC did with various historic Birdfolk and Catfolk options was fold them into one each, the Aaroccka and Tabaxi respectively, to aid D&D brand identity. I remember Mearla and Wyatt discussing this fairly extensively. I also recall that Crawford said that Theros was just going to use Tabaxi for Leonine, but the Leonine really didn't fit the stats for Tabaxi: after Tasha's, with the fix to Race ASI, they wouldn't do the same thing again. In a module or two, yes. But they were not prominent.
The xixchil (sp?) and rastipedes (also sp?) at least were in the Spacefarer's Handbook.
The Thri-keen are the D&D Bugfolk, so those others are probably just folded into them for ease of branding across Settings.
