Thanks for this! Very helpful to read for my own designs. I agree with Uncharted Journeys; I really was not happy with how the wilderness travel played out, and in AiME it felt underwhelming too. If the focus is on the journey, I expect it ought to either be an encounter day of 4-8 encounters with a low chance for some positive ones. Instead, it comes out much how your example described.
I'm pretty happy with Level Up's version of the Journey rules. Seem to fit into the system pretty well.

A5e for sure! I love the herirage/culture system. Making characters is a lot of fun and all three books are useful. I use Trials and Treasures frequently and find the Monster book to be way more interesting than 5e. The dungeon supplement is extremely well done. Our only minor quibble is that too many maneuvers are not that interesting.

I have to say, I looooove seeing how many people here are mixing and matching systems from different 5E games. I've long since wanted an OSR but for 5E where there is a culture about hacking your game from the available options to get what's best for your table; however, for a long time, everyone just used core WotC books. I know there are more options now, but regardless of the reason, this is dope.
For me personally, it's because at this point, I've invested too much in 5E just to toss away one version of 5E for another. So, at most, I look through and cherry pick through stuff and use it according.

Also this is the EXACT face I make when the developers of these 5E systems go "And it is backwards compatible with your existing 5E stuff" as they scream horribly 5 seconds later "NO NO WE DIDN'T MEAN LIKE THAT!!!!*

What do you mean by "familiar with"? I know of the existance of all of these, and have some idea as to the design objectives, but I've only read one.

I think "familiar with" could mean several things here.

1. You have collected and read a number of books and PDFs associated with 5e, A5e and/or ToV.
2. You have participated in the playtesting phase of 5e, A5e and/or ToV.
3. You have participated in forum threads associated with one or more of these RPGs.
4. You have role-played in one or more of these RPGs, or in a homebrew that contains the elements of one or more of these RPGs.
5. You have read articles about one or more of these RPGs.
6. You have watched clips on YouTube that talked about them.

Etc. ;)
