The cynic in me makes me believe that the ability scores are messed up, unclear, or imbalance due to the groups of people who were first came into the the hobby and the mindset loyalty of early war game units.

D&D separates Noticing and Displaying. Wisdom is insight.

Charisma is "display" Charisma lets you display empathy. Whether you have it or not. That's why Deception is CHA. CHA is your ability to make others see you in the way you want them to see you.

Charisma is the OPPOSITE of empathy. Think of it this way Info in= Wisdom Info Processing and Recovery = Intelligence Info Out= Charisma

It's not that they have to not hold back It's that frankly the main lead designers of D&D dont relate to their much younger audience. And they didn't provide enough space to attempt it without creating a new subsystem.

Can't have it both ways. Can't say the official meanings are bad and never read them. If someone says they don't get it but ignores the Active INT and Passive WIS explanation most most editions give, that's on them.

They arent interchangable INT and WIS are 2 very different concepts. Clerics are WIS because traditionally Clerics are warrior-priest sent out by churchs and gods to kill stuff or retrieve stuff. Inspiring people isn't the point. Again. Not thinking. Gut reaction and Sensory triggers.
