What are you reading in 2024?

Partway through Downbelow Station. I might take a break after this to (re)read some Judge Dee (and get the next books in order), because gf & I are very much enjoying the series on netflix (no one Ma Rongs like Ma Rong Ma Rongs!) and the first time I read them I thought they were ripe for converting to D&D adventures.

I'm about to give away a bunch of Judge Dee books to the local charity book sale. If you want them, DM me and I can send them to you for cost of shipping. Or if you want to cherry pick them for ones you don't have, again go ahead and DM me and we can figure something out. Or if you've got so many books you will effectively live forever (right? Buying books buys us the time to read them?!?), I'll take them to the charity sale

Colour of Magic is one of my least favourite. I recommend checking out the Sam Vines arc, starting with Guards! Guards! I believe.

Worth noting that Colour of Magic is arguably the book that's least like the rest. The episodic nature of the book is quite atypical of the series, especially the later books once Rincewind is out of the spotlight. Pratchett developed a distinct style (I'd be tempted to call it a formula, but that implies something negative, like Xanth) for Discworld novels over time and unsurprisingly at the start of the series that style isn't firmed up yet. You can see the outlines, but it'll be a few books yet before it gels.

I'm partial to the Moist books myself, but the earliest books were definitely not a hit for me.

Ugh. Couldn't sleep, finished Downbelow Station last night at 3:30am. (liked it, no surprise) Was supposed to pick up an auger this AM, but got there too late apparently. Dude has not called me back. Feel exhausted. 3 hours sleep, yay. :/

Calling it a day; my head is all scattered. Might go hike a bit. There's an old (saw) mill up in the woods a ways with a big stone foundation, and I want to poke around and see if I can figure out where they quarried the blocks from. It was gone by 1887, so early or mid-1800s. I'm guessing they're from a spot right around the site, cause it's a slope to get there and these blocks are wicked big for time.
