Hello everyone, Darryl here with this week’s gaming news! Starfinder announcements plus an update to Paizo’s organized play, The Lost Citadel coming to gaming, Modiphius’s Conan RPG released, Adventures in Middle Earth Loremaster’s Guide comes out, PETA butts heads with Games Workshop, and more!

Looking Back At Chaosium's Stormbringer Role-Playing Game

After some online conversations on social media, I decided that I should talk about a few older games and supplements in my column here. I ran a Twitter poll with some options, some of which I may visit in future pieces, and Stormbringer came out as a pretty dominating choice. The game took the lead, and kept it throughout the duration of the poll. So, I hauled a couple of Stormbringer pieces out of my library: the second printing of the first edition Stormbringer boxed set put out by Chaosium, and the "third edition" book put out by Games Workshop in the UK.
After appearing three years running in the 10 Most Anticipated RPGs of the Year list, it seems that Conan's streak has come to and end - because Conan: Adventures in an Age Undreamed Of has been released! You can get it right now from Modiphius' web store, and will be able to get it elsewhere from tomorrow. PDF only, for the moment. You can also grab a book of six adventures, Jewelled Thrones of the Earth. Conan: Adventures in an Age Undreamed of is based on Modiphius' own 2d20 system (which also powers their upcoming Star Trek Adventures game). The book is now available for review in the reviews area.
The (PDF version of) the Adventures in Middle Earth Loremaster's Guide is about to drop - it releases tomorrow, and will be available at the usual places. Cubicle 7 has sent along a preview of the contents page from the book. The Loremaster's Guide is the "DMG" to the Player's Guide's "PHB". "The quest that began with the Player’s Guide continues in this lavishly illustrated, hardcover. The Loremaster’s Guide presents inspiration, guidance and additional new rules to help you create and run encounters, adventures and campaigns in the world of The Hobbit ™ and The Lord of the Rings ™, using the 5th Edition OGL ruleset. Packed with information, this volume is an invaluable resource for your games."
Making it's grand debut in EN5ider, the ZEITGEIST adventure path Campaign Guide is now available to all patrons. Steam and soot darken the skies above the city of Flint, and winds sweeping across its majestic harbor blow the choking products of industrial forges into the fey rainforests that dot its knife-toothed mountains. Since the earliest ages when the people of Risur founded this city, they feared the capricious beings that hid in those fog-shrouded peaks, but now as the march of progress and the demands of national defense turn Flint into a garden for artifice and technology, the old faiths and rituals that kept the lurkers of the woods at bay are being abandoned.

RPG Crate Spotlight: RPGCrate

In the latest installment of our role-playing game crate service overview, I caught up with Chris Hinson, owner of RPGCrate.

Sean's Picks of the Week (0123-0127) - Interesting and Different Week!

It started with the groundbreaking Baron Munchausen, which helped change everyone's views of what gaming might entail. Then I realized it was time to show off the new Blue Rose, and there it was - Interesting and Different Week! These are all games that break some ground in some way, or at least defiantly step away from M1A1-standard issue gaming concepts. Don't get me wrong - I will always love the classic forms. Still, it's really nice to take a look at just how far and wide this hobby has wandered.
After three successful years as Business Manager for the annual Gen Con EN World RPG Awards, Gabriel Whitehead is taking a more behind-the-scenes role with the awards. Gabriel and Cindy Whitehead will still be attending Gen Con and will still be involved with the ENnies, but it’s time for a new Business Manager to take the reigns!
Monte Cook Games has just announced that on February 20th, it will be launching a Kickstarter for a deluxe The Strange boxed set. They did one for Numenera a couple of years ago, raising over a quarter-million US dollars. In addition, they mentioned that the Predation rules are with playtesters, Invisible Sun is about half designed, Unmasked is in playtesting, and more. You can watch the full video announcement below.
Lots of updates for Paizo's upcoming science-fantasy RPG, Starfinder, today! Not only did Paizo make the game available for pre-order, they also announced the first adventure path for it and released the Starfinder Compatibility License for third-party publishers. Add to this a Starfinder booklet for Free RPG Day in June, and accessories like a GM screen, pawns, maps, and more, and it's quite the treasure trove of information. Here goes!

[UPDATED - With Cubicle 7] Games Workshop Concluding Deal For Licensing Rights To Warhammer Fantasy

Either Cubicle 7 or Modiphius.
The Lost Citadel is a shared world horror setting. Launched in 2012, it was based on an idea of Jaym Gates, CA Suleiman and Ari Marmell, and features various branches - music, stories, art, and, now, a tabletop roleplaying game. Green Ronin will be producing the game, which will be a D&D 5th Edition game, and is slated for Winter 2018. The dark fantasy setting is based in Zileksa, "a land ravaged by death and undeath, where all that’s left of civilization has gathered behind the walls of the last remaining city of the living." Green Ronin is, of course, known for the tabletop RPGs Mutants & Masterminds, A Song of Ice and Fire, Blue Rose, Dragon Age, and for producing the 5E adventure Out of the Abyss for WotC. [Edit - I accidentally missed one of the creators from the paragraph above; apologies to Jaym Gates!]

Rodney Thompson, who you may remember from such products as Star Wars RPG Saga Edition, D&D 5th Edition, and Lords of Waterdeep, has launched a Kickstarter for his new game, Dusk City Outlaws. We mentioned it last week, but now the Kickstarter is live. "Dusk City Outlaws is a tabletop roleplaying game inspired by books, TV shows, and movies like The Lies of Locke Lamora, Leverage, and Ocean's Eleven, where players take on the roles of thieves belonging to the eight cartels that rule the criminal underworld of a massive fantasy city. The players come together to form a crew and take on a job, planning and executing a criminal scheme and earning the respect of their peers."
This is a series of articles about specific monsters from D&D’s history. Each entry takes a look at the origin of one D&D creature, and tracks its appearances and evolution across different editions. We have now reached the second half of our alphabetical tour and the “N” creature is the preferred steed of evil villains from Warduke to Lord Soth—the nightmare. Origins The English word...
