Pros and Cons: I-CON 32

I-CON, short for Island CONvention, has been a staple of geek culture on Long Island for decades. I-CON disappeared for five years, but it returned this year with I-CON 32 to a new venue. I had the pleasure of being a guest last weekend once more and I'm happy to report the con is back on its feet.
It's TRAILseeker's 100th issue! A Pathfinder Roleplaying Game adventure from Mike Myler for 5th level characters - The Fugitive Scholar. Can the party help find out who framed Kanral Bodache, save a missing prince, defeat an evil diabolist, and save the walled city of Rettikus? Master of Evaluations Kanral Bodache is on the run from his arcane college in the city of Rettikus. He has been framed for a royal “murder” by one of the settlement’s head merchants; the missing prince has been kidnapped and hidden with abyssal power. Illustrated by Ellis Goodson; cartography by Ross McConnell.
At Gary Con, Goodman Games and WotC announced a partnership, as reported by Brett B over on Google+. They'll be reprinting classic modules, including B1 In Search of the Unknown and B2 The Keep on the Borderlands in a hardcover with both the original adventures and 5th Edition information. More information if and when I hear it!

(KS) Join the hunt and fight the void in the Dhovaine science fantasy RPG

One-hundred and fifty years ago, something appeared in the Dhovainian sky. An object, tiny at first but over the years growing into a massive black orb larger than our own sun, or any of our three moons. It brought with it catastrophe that plagued us in many forms. The first catastrophe came as a rain of fire and rock that pelted our landscape and destroyed our cities. As the object grew, it began to influence the already dangerous creatures of our world, turning them into stronger, more bloodthirsty monsters that ravaged our lands and killed our people. They say that a third catastrophe is coming. They say that the black sun in our sky signals the waking of the Void.

(KS) 7 Days of ‘Cold Warning’ for Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition

Cold Warning is a 1920’s scenario for Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition by Golden Goblin Press (Cthulhu Invictus; Tales of Crescent City). It’s a quick fire 7 day campaign so if you want in you’d better be quick about it!
In the wake of Brazil Tanslatorgate, Dungeons & Dragons licensee Gale Force Nine has made a statement regarding the dispute between Fire on Board and FMR about the rights to translate D&D 5th Edition into Portuguese for he Brazilian audience. They have put translation plans for Brazil on hold pending an investigation. As yet, WotC has issued no comment.

Sean's Picks of the Week (0320-0324) - Adventures Week! SW, D&D, Cypher!

It started out as an accident, as many of my Theme Weeks often do. I just noticed I was focused on adventure-related Picks about halfway through, so there you go! Of particular excitement was the discovery that DriveThruRPG is now carrying back-issues of the Paizo-run of both Dragon and Dungeon magazines; I believe I can claim to have broke that particular piece of news, as a matter of fact. Add to that some Cypher system support, an Adventurer's League release, and a couple of Savage Worlds adventures full of fantasy action, and you've got scenario support in every direction. As my sign off always says, "The Adventure Continues!."

Planescape WOTC Teasing Planescape?

Was just about to post this.
Things are afoot in Brazil, in what will no doubt become known as "Brazil Translatorgate" or something similar - as a dispute breaks out between the Brazilian company Fire on Board for the recently announced Dungeons & Dragons translations and three other companies who claim they had an agreement with Fire on Board to undertake the project as a joint venture. The dispute has been reported on various sites, with the gist being that the CEO of Fire on Board was appointed to act as spokesman for the group in negotiations with Hasbro (or Gale Force 9, which is overseeing all translations) but instead signed an agreement for just his own company. Fire on Board announced on Facebook on 21 March that it had the license and remains the current licensee for D&D translations in Brazil. Fire on Board, for its part, appears to deny any wrongdoing and says that it notified the other companies that it was withdrawing from negotiations with them, and that at no point was any formal agreement made.
As always with D&D 5th Edition books, Tales from the Yawning Portal has a humourous disclaimer at the front. Here's a quick peek at it (courtesy of Shane Plays). Plus read on for the list of new monsters in the book!
The YouTube channel Dungeon Life has posted a video featuring WotC's Kate Irwin (senior art director), Emi Tanji (senior graphic designer), and Jeremy Crawford (managing editor). It talks about designing Tales from the Yawning Portal. One of the themes discussed it how the adventures in the book were kept the same at the core, updating the stats and wording to make them feel like 5th Edition - "What would you do if you redesigned the adventures to be more like a modern D&D design? And the answer is, we didn't. What we did is we took Tomb of Horrors, and it's still Tomb of Horrors that Gary Gygax wrote..." Tales from the Yawning Portal hits preferred game stores tomorrow (ask your local store!) and everywhere else 11 days later.
