That's mainly why I say the barbarian being the simple warrior might work.
There's not much desire for a complex barbarian. And for most who do want it would be satisfied by a conversion of the 4e Warden class.
HOWEVER
There is a large vocal group who want the fighter to be the simple warrior...
Special Templates vs Monsters Stat Blocks
Some people want wild shape to have their own special templates so do it players aren't looking through every beast within a CR rating every time they transform or choose forms. Some people want Druid to wildshape using actual stat blocks in order to...
We know we won't get the class from WOTC.
The issue is getting the class from someone else the DM allows.
Paizo, Pelgrane, Darrington, MCDM and other well known full RPG publishers don't have simple and complex warrior classes in their RPGs. Or a simple Arcanist or Healer class. Or a Shifter...
That the problem.
A lot of nobodies made their own versions.
The common "5e homebrew class" problem is the clout, marketing power, and play testing base don't make the most desired stuff. Just people the average DM doesn't trust and never heard of make them.
That part doesn't matter because
90% of D&D and D&DClone designers, WOTC or not, think the same.
Other RPGs failed at this too.
I mean how many other people in this thread put a simple warrior class and a separate complex warrior class on their list?
Or is everyone just copying the same...
That's why there should be 2 classes.
Either make Fighter the complex class and invent a simple Brute class
OR
Make Fighter the simple class and make a complex Warblade
Making both in the same class would require killing sacred cows, inadequacy on one side, or complete loss of identity as...
Not hyperbole.
It's like the Druid Wildshape problem.
There are 2 groups who want 2 opposing things.
There is absolutely no way to please both groups with one thing without cracking a golden egg or sacred cow somewhere else.
Except with Fighter, it's like 7 groups because we arbitrarily put...
I never said there was anything wrong with the fighter being a simple class.
I said trying to make the fighter both a simple class and a complex class at the same time is bad design. It's doom to failure unless you are willing to completely open yourself up to possibilities which the designers...
The D&D designers assumed that DMs would adjudicate the gap.
What they failed to remember is the same reason why some editions had skill charts and a million classes.
People don't imagine the same things anymore. This cause conflict that pushes people to harder rules.
Simple classes are for people who need simple classes.
Sometimes because they are new and need to be eased in. Sometimes they are vets and don't want to complexity.
The mistake D&D makes is attaching the simple style to the one of the most important and and the broadest class in their roster...
