    D&D 1E Favorite Obscure Rules from TSR-era D&D

Which leaves them in the odd position of being able to fill a lantern, but not light it!

Hmm. The way that's worded, an ogre and 5 kobolds attacking my 5th level fighter would entitle the fighter to five attacks, which could be taken on the ogre. Muahahahahaha!

D&D 5E Which classes have the least identity?

First, how useful combat ability is can also vary wildly from game to game. Ask the DM what kind of game it is before making a character. Second, I'm not suggesting they be bad at combat. Just not as good. See also my baseball analogy in the other post. :)

D&D 5E Which classes have the least identity?

We will see. I think that will be true, but when 5e came out classes and rules were significantly changed from the last playtest we had. I'm not counting any playtest towards this discussion since we can't be sure what is going to be what. Edit: Did the change bring him up to par outside of...

D&D 5E Which classes have the least identity?

The fighter's main and only thing is his supposed combat supremacy via his weapons and armor use. They have given up social and exploration pillars to be that. WotC should give the fighter that ability that they supposedly have. The other classes should never, ever be able to match the...

D&D 5E Which classes have the least identity?

The whole game is less fun for it. Fun is subjective. ;)

D&D 5E Which classes have the least identity?

I think that power in combat should be mitigated by out of combat ability. Rogues for instance shouldn't be as good as fighters in combat. The disclaimer should let people know that. Something to the effect of... "This class shines outside of combat with its skills, so it will not be as...

    D&D General Humans are Blind

Overwhelming numbers and despite all the PC parties consisting of a tortle, a dragonborn, a tabaxi and manbearpig, humans have most of the adventurers, including high level adventurers.

Numbers. Humans tend to have greater numbers. Also, remember that in older editions orcs couldn't be most classes and had severe level limits in the few that they could have.

I had forgotten about those feats.

D&D 5E Which classes have the least identity?

If they did that they would end up with a nonsensical class, because the class mechanics would not match the fluff and lore. They would also need to change the mechanics and now you no longer have a Fighter. Correct. Like the above, you can't just move the fluff and lore without changing the...

D&D 5E Which classes have the least identity?

Yes it is. The OP makes no distinction between mechanics and lore. It simply asks which has the least identity. Mechanics are subordinate to the lore. You don't create a class that can explore things and have a favored enemy and then come up with the ranger lore. You have the ranger concept...

D&D 5E Which classes have the least identity?

They should not be able to be better than the class that is supposed to be the best at it. Or maybe the wizard just needs a boost. Either way, it's still part of the wizard's identity. Okay. I see what you mean. And I agree with you that too many conjuration spells are doing damage like...

D&D 5E Which classes have the least identity?

Yep. That they screwed up rogues and bards that way doesn't take away the wizard's identity. I don't know what that means. Yeah. The necromancy spells of 5e need reworking.
