VTT (FG specifically).

But when not doing that (which is rare these days);
- dry erase mat
- minis
- DM screen (mainly for reference, not to block view)
- hanging initiative cards arranged over the DM screen so everyone can see init and it is easy to adjust

*Dry erase mat & markers
* minis
*The plastic pane out of a large poster frame - we tend to print out large maps. This holds them down & allows us to draw on top as needed.
* a laser pointer
* a bearclaw backscratcher - used to push things about that are out of my reach
* a coaster for my drink

Back when I used to use a screen, I picked up a cheap pack of colored wooden clothespins - the ones with the notch, not the ones with the springs. Each PC had their own color, I had a few for groups of foes that also had a number of it, and a few others (a "big bad", a few for NPCs, allies or neutrals).

We rolled init, I put them on top of my screen where they took up no table real estate, and just went. If your clothespin was at the front, you were up, and then I put it to the back. Veyr clear to see who is on deck, including foes, and dirt simple to advance.

Right now we use a mondomat, miniatures, and that is pretty much it. For the game I run once this one is over I'll be moving to Dungeonstone 3d terrain, and other 3d terrain, paper and minis.

In our 4e sessions, we're using
- a whiteboard (mainly to track initiative)
- dry-erase maps and minis
- condition cards & tokens

I have to admit the Pathfinder magnetic tracker looks quite good, perhaps we should switch to use that instead of our whiteboard...

Chalkboard, gridded, up on blocks above the table (character sheets, dice, stationery stuff, etc. all go under here, on the main table)
Chalk and brushes
Minis
Condition tokens (a.k.a. a cheap set of replacement poker chips from the dollar store)
Pointers (telescoping antennae out of old FM transistor radios)
Note paper
Assorted props or scene aids, as and when needed
Player-side manuals, books, and tablets (some of our game info is online)
Usually far too much food - sometimes there's no board left to play the game on!
DM screen, behind which are
- - - big stacks of disorganized papers, otherwise known as my DM notes and game logs
- - - a laptop that never gets used (I can't stand laptops)
- - - monster minis
- - - DM-side manuals, books, maps, etc.
- - - pointers (long balsa-wood sticks)
- - - once in a while, a cat

* a bearclaw backscratcher - used to push things about that are out of my reach
That's brilliant! Idea stolen!
* a coaster for my drink
While that is simply essential, as is the drink upon it! :)

Lanefan

4E here.

- Laptop to run Masterplan - that takes care of initiative, damage, condition tracking for monsters and PCs, and, of course, the actual adventure (and campaign). Oh, and it's a dice roller too.
- Dry erase battlemap with four whiteboard pens - red, green, blue, black.
- Lots of 1" x 2" pieces of white paper on which I write, for example, "Zhentarim mageling 1" on and then set them up on the battlemap using a black bull clip as the base. So easy, so cheap, and so bloody effective.
- A sheet of paper with all of 4E conditions.

(snip) *The plastic pane out of a large poster frame - we tend to print out large maps. This holds them down & allows us to draw on top as needed. (snip)

Now that's a great idea!

And that's another great idea!
