In 5e? A moon Druid wild elf named Wren Pin-Awen. Shared character with my daughter, which allows for shared memories.
Any edition? 2e were tiger Druid. Over the top and a blast to play.

A lich that had no issues allowing himself to die in battle, and would devise ridiculous Goldberg deathtraps for his enemies after he regenerated a new body. He took 'petty vengeance' to a new level. It was mostly a background thing he would work on during downtime, so he didn't steal the spotlight with his deathtraps until it was time to actually spring them on someone.

"I practice my lute at the tavern over the next week."
"I fight in the arena for spare coin."
"And then... she gasps and take a step back, right into the pit trap! Scribble Scribble"

For any RPG? Joseirus, The Egyptian God of Mexican Wrestling, who was young Latinx Jose Ramirez from East LA when he wasn’t fighting crime.

For D&D? Let’s say Sir Yatagan Fracas, Dragonborn Paladin of the Dragon Within, Elder of the Church of Treasure, Director of the Miracle Pig Theater Company, and the author of the best musical about a fake pig goddess, “Porky and Bless’d”.

Monayuris... my first AD&D character a human ranger who rolled like 99% for psionics.

I ran him to 14th level. He established a lodge and formed a band of rangers outside of one of the major towns in our game and patrolled the woods nearby. Kind of like the Rangers of the North.

This was after years of play and enjoyment running him

Now I mostly DM, so i rarely get a chance to experience playing a character for anything more than a one-shot.

Bingo Underhill. He’s a Halfling rogue who started as a cheeky reference to The Hobbit and over time took on a life of his own. The core concept is, “what would a character who was the actual burglar the dwarves thought they’d be getting in Billbo look like?” And the answer I came up with was an entrepreneur who treated skullduggery like a business. As I’ve played and iterated on the character, he’s morphed into an actual, legitimate business person, who’s business only seems shady but is in fact 100% above-board. He’s the proud owner (and sole employee) of Locks, Stocks, and Beryl: locksmithy, accounting, and treasure hunting services.

Not sure on a favorite, but a memorable one was Friar Sebastian who was a 1/2ling cleric/thief back in 2e. He would heal the NPCs while picking their pockets

Korbach Angist, whose holy symbol is my user pic, specially made for me by one of the kind artists on Enworld many, many years ago. He's a character I've played in 2e, 3e and now 5e in different incarnations. Just love him.

I pretty much have a favorite for every edition. Picking a single one would be tricky, but if I had to choose, it would be Quillion Al'Ray from 3E.

Quillion started off as a disgraced sun elf wizard whose siblings had aided an invasion against Evermeet. He vowed to chase his siblings down and bring them to justice. Aided by his friend and bodyguard, they traveled to Waterdeep where he was apprenticed to Khelben Blackstaff for a time. During their stay in Waterdeep, they met with a strange human that had become one of the Chosen of Miliki, who traveled with a menagerie of animals, and a dwarf cleric devoted to the god of dirt. Quillion traveled with these companions to various parts of the Sword Coast and faced many dangers.

Quillion accidentally led them into a trap after hearing a rumor that his brother was seen around Ardeep Forest. His brother had allied with the Fey'ri, demon elves, who captured them. They attempted to corrupt Quillion, while the others faced torture, but they managed to escape. Ashamed by his actions, he fell into a deep despair.

Afterwards, Quillion was approached by strange mages who called themselves the Shadowvar, who offered the power needed to defeat the Fey'ri. Tempted by the offer, Quillion refused, and returned to face the Fey'ri with his own magic instead. He was forced to slay his brother's Fey'ri daughter, but he drove the Fey'ri from the forest. When he later aided the Chosen of Miliki against the Shadowvar who invaded his home of the Silver Marches, Quillion realized that the Shadowvar's offer would have meant the death of his friend and the fall of the Silver Marches.

While he never found his brother or sister, his actions brought honor back to his family, and he was accepted back to Evermeet where he took up his father's role of overseeing the Mithal that protects the isle.

Of course I do. I have several. And I've played each of them in several different editions beyond where they originally hail from.

My favorite of them all is my 5e 1/2ling warlock (fey patron, Pact of the Chain) Bree Burrfoot & her pseudo-dragon patron/familiar "Scales". Right now she's 9th lv.
*She started "life" as a 5e NPC "quest giver"/source of exposition in my 1st 5e campaign.
*Then her & her sister Rose (whom I've also played as a PC) graduated to recurring NPCs/mcguffins to be protected based upon the players actions.
*Then I needed a PC character on really short notice for a CoS campaign. So I dropped her to lv1 (being in Barovia hindered her link to Scales until she adjusted) & filled in the rest of the details - by this point she'd been in various games as an NPC for almost two years, so I knew the character & her general abilities. And I had a specific mini for her. It was just time to give her a formal character sheet. :)
*Then I played her in two PBP games + a PF game & the closing encounter with Martek in Desert of Desolation.
*She (and her sister) has also made NPC cameos in both my ToA & current campaign.

Currently she's back home at the Wildwood Inn, now 9th lv, fabulously wealthy, with amazing! stories, & looking forward to the birth of her 1st nephew/niece.
And no doubt dreaming of future adventures. Because in her own words "I'm an AWESOME adventurer!"

In the future, if she'll fit a campaign, I'll definitely continue to play her (PC or NPC, whatever works).
Bree Burrfoot will return....
