Your Favorite Mini Companies?

I'm searching for some nice miniatures that would be detailed enough to paint and display. I have a lot of cheaper miniatures (WizKids, old D&D minis, Reaper, Dragons Hoard, stuff from boardgames), but I'd like something better quality.

I also have a resin 3D printer, but I've been unable to get reliable quality out of it. So I'd prefer already printed minis.

Who do you like to use? Any suggestions?

What companies you're looking for are going to depend largely on just what sort of figures you're looking for - sci-fi, fantasy, pcs, townsfolk, monsters, etc...

I'm primarily a Reaper guy. I'm also preferably an old-school metal guy, although Reaper's plastics are now really good as well.

I get most of my 3D-printed stuff from various eBay sellers, or occasionally from Etsy.

Stuff that's "fun" to paint and display.
I know that's a little vague, but I'm leaning to fleshy, furry, horned, teeth, and tentacles (monsters, aliens, etc.) over things like terrain and vehicles. I don't necessarily need more hero-type models (which will probably be damaged by my players anyway).

I don’t paint, but I damn sure collect. I have a great gray horde containing Ral Partha, Grenadier, Heritage, Reaper and many others. Some I can’t even remember.

I went through a phase when I was buying the minis to Rackham’s Confrontation minis game- especially the wolfen (?)- because they looked great and the gam’s rules seemed VERY similar to WotC’s Chainmail/D&D minis game. I had some grand idea of importing some of them into the WotC game…after I converted cm to inches. And French into English.😜

I also bought some of Crocodile Games’ War Gods of Ægyptus minis, again for the coolness factor.

I own a lot of Confrontation but they can be hard to find now. I actually very much like a lot of Games Workshops line but they can be cost prohibitive. I’d recommend looking at their Warcry line or one of other smaller games.

I guess everyone knows about Games Workshop in both their Age of Sigmar and Warhammer 40k lines both of which some great looking monstrous models you can paint. I quite enjoyed painting up some of their giants, Sons of Behemet, in recent years. If you look below you'll see an actual photo of me on my way to paint some models.

If giant robots are more your thing, Imperial Knights or Chaos Knights (see below) might be a good choice.

If you're into Fallout, there's a game from Modiphius called Fallout: Wasteland Warfare. Here's a picture of their Liberty Prime model next to an Imperial Knight from Games Workshop. Don't pay attention to the filthy computer screen in the background.

I think Reaper might be a great place for you to start. Some of the larger miniatures in their Bones line look great and are relatively inexpensive making them great to practice on.

While I don't really care for WizKid's line of miniatures when it comes to the ones you might use as PCs, some of their monsters are fantastic.

You might want to consider some board games which come with very nice components these days. Cthulhu Death May Die, Zombicide, etc., etc.

Consider branching out into the world of modeling. This triceratops was made by Pegusus Hobbies and only set me back about $40.
