(WoT)Fixing the Algai'd'siswai

CD

I understand that the Aiel can't be killing machines due to game balance, but it looks like they've overcompensated by making them too weak. Why would anyone play one past maybe 6th level? +2 vs traps and +4 initiative? No thanks.

What would fix this unbalance? Off the top of my head I'd suggest bonus feats in line with the armsman at every 4th level starting at 8th. Plus maybe make the Ref and Fort saves better.

I have really toyed with the idea of doing a "Class Combos" ala Dragon Mag on my site for some of the Aiel. This would solve your problem and add variety to the 13 warrior groupings. Doing it that way you don't have to change the rules but a Maiden of the Spear is obviously different than a Stone Dog.

YMMV

That would be handy. I'm also thinking of importing the Martial Artist Feat from Star Wars; "fighting with hands and feet":)

Better fix, that's already balanced according to the game designers: Use the Woodsman class, with a favored terrain of desert, for most Aiel warriors.

That avoids the very situation I'm trying to fix. That's like saying Gaul is the same class as Tam al'Thor but in the desert. The flavor doesn't feel right. Of course, if I used everything as is I'd play an Aiel to 4th level, then switch to Woodsman.

Has there been any information on the 13 warrior societies? I think only three or four were described in the glosseries at the ends of the books. The Guide didn't have much more information either. Does anyone know what the rest of the societies specialised in?

I don't think any additional information has been given, but I have my ideas about a few of them:

Cor Darei (Night Spears) are probably more focused on stealth and night raids.

Sovin Nai (Knife Hands) are probably better martial artists.

Duadhe Mahdi'in (Water Seekers) are probably the "woodsmen" of the Aiel...which means they can probably survive in the Waste by drinking their own sweat or something else crazy.

and Sha'mad Conde (Thunder Walkers), I picture these guys as big Arnold-type tanks.

Those are just my theories though, I'm confident that no actual information has been given beyond Stone Dogs, Red Shields, Maidens, and maybe one other society.

Some societies are associated with certain skill and abilities as Enforcer has listed, but other societies are differentiated more by interpretations of ji'e'toh. Stone Dogs, and Red Shields have their special duties, and see themselves in a certain light regarding the honor of all the Aiel. The Maidens of the Spear also have a special spin on honor and are, of course, all female.

Don't get too caught up on differentiating society by skills. Remember that ji'e'toh is more important to the Aiel in general than anything else.

That is what has held up the shootin match. No info. I think you might be able to squeek 5-6 class combos out. I don't use Aiel much in my home game so it has not been pressing.

I can see the point, but I still think you can diffirentiate the groups with a "Class Combo" for example Maidens might have more Wander than the Knife Hands. JMO.

It will be interesting to see if we ever get any more information out of Jordan. Maybe when the whole series is published (5-10 years from now. ;)) they'll release another Wheel of Time Guide.
