D&D 3E/3.5 Wood Elves [3.5]

A peek in the DM's guide shows that Wood Elves now get the following stat modifications:

+2 STR
+2 DEX
-2 CON
-2 INT

Is this a mistake, or a revision from [3.0]? Wood Elves used to also recieve a -2 CHA.

If you're referring to the FR wood elf, then yes.

But don't be sure that the FR wood elf, and the generic one is the same.

The DMG in 3.0 lists the same stat mods as the FRCS book.

In the 3.5 DMG, the Wood Elves do not get a -2 CHA.

IIRC (I don't own a monster manual) the Ranger is the Wood Elf favored class.

Hi krunchyfrogg!

Just took a look at the 3.5 SRD, Wood Elves no longer get a penalty to Charisma. So yes, its a revision :)

From 3.5 SRD:
"Wood Elf Traits (Ex): These traits are in addition to the high elf traits, except where noted.
— +2 Strength, –2 Intelligence.
—Favored Class: Ranger. This trait replaces the high elf ’s favored class."

Seems to be a revision. Both the new DMG and the new MM have no Cha penalty in store for the Coppers, while the old ones have.

I'm not completely sure whether that's good or not.

What ever could be bad about them not following the DMG rule about not balancing a +2 str with a -2 to int on a race in that same DMG?

They could at least wait until the next splat books before getting silly again...

Hmm well in living campaigns wood elves were considered to be the most broken racial choice. So I would consider it a bad thing to dump their -2 cha. They certainly put half orcs to shame now.

Why would it be a bad thing to dump the -2 cha, since dumping it would balance things out for wood elves? Under 3rd ed., wood elves lost 6 ability points and only got 4 to compensate. Now it's an even 4 lost/4 gained.

In comparison, half-orcs still suffer from losing 4 points and gaining only two, but it's somewhat balanced out by their having orc blood.

Orc blood is more often a drawback than it is an advantage.

Elf blood is more often an advantage than a drawback.

I think dropping the CHA penalty was probably a mistake, but the point of this thread was to ask if it was a typo, or if it was a change in 3.5.
