Winged Humanoids?

First Post
I am looking for winged humanoid form for the use with the Alter Self spell. I am aware of the Avariel, but since they are extremly rare and normally limited to FR campaigns, an alternative form would be much appreciated.

I think they are the only one (not counting obscure monster books, which I do not know).

I wonder, why there are no bird people, actually, but they would maybe be monstrous humanoids then.

On a sidenote: is it necessary to have seen the type of creature a caster wants to alter (or polymorph) to, or is it sufficient to have heard/read/seen a picture of the desired form? The rules do not state anything in this respect.

When the rules don't say anything about it, ask the DM. He'll have the final word. Personally, To make it believable I wouldn't allow things you only know from hear-say. But then again, I wouldn't allow things you only have seen casually, not really studied.
