White Wolf character creation

First Post
Well my friends want to get into White Wolf (just using the D10 system) to run a Post-Apocalyptic game. I've never played d10 before and was just wondering if anyone had any comments or suggestions about it.

While the core games are all the same it really depends which system he is using. Exalted is a bit different from World of Darkness which is different from Scion. And the older editions are again similar but still different. As White Wolf doesn't have a purely post apocalyptic setting do you know what he is using?

Character creation is a dot and point based system. There are 9 attributes (and there is some difference between games). You get X, Y, and Z points to place in Physical, Mental, and Social abilities. The numbers vary from game to game as well.

Abilities (what d20 calls skills) are either done either in the same way (different points for physical, mental, and social abilities) or just a bunch of points that one divides up. Some of the games have a three dot limit.

Most of the games have a merit and flaw system. And there are other odds and ends that differ from game to game.

He's using World of Darkness, if that helps any in your advice/comment.

The new system is nice and easy to use. One can make a wide range of character types. I like the system and it works well. I'm not sure what you want to know. My advice for building a character is to come up with a good concept first and then build the character to fit the concept.

My character idea is a blue-collar worker at a chemical plant. Enjoys fishing on the weekends, drinking cold beer. Real average, works hard, honest kind of guy. He isn't concerned with aspiring to more because someone needs to do his job and it might as well be him. One day the world ends (not sure how yet) and he is obviously one of the survivors . I'm kind of wondering (looking at the character sheet right now) where my stats would go. I'm think anything to do with intellegence would obviously be lower compaired to strength based stuff or wisdom based stuff (like common sense, ie. "stepping on the loose gravel at the top of this hill is probably not a good idea." or "you should always purify water before drinking it because river water isn't generally that clean.") Since he is a honest hard worker kind of character he likes others to make decisions for him, he really doesn't care about politics because he feels that nothing a city official decides will affect him. He goes to work, punches in, punches out goes home and rests.

i hope this makes some kind of sense. thankyou very much for your help Crothian, i do appriciate it. (sorry about the bad spelling as well).

Also, i came up with the character idea while listening to "The Chemical Workers Song" by Great Big Sea. Thought that might be an interesting timbit of info.

That sounds like a good solid character. You might go physical, social, and then mental for attributes. Do you have the book and the character generation guidelines?
