Which book is the Firenewt in?

Or an even better question for this forum, has anybody created any custom Firenewt races? And PLEASE don't tell me it didn't make it to 3.0/3.5! I'll be upset.

Oh, on a purely side note, though not completely off the subject, has anyone worked out what sort of damage the Firenewt's breath weapon would do depending on it's level? Thanks!

The Firenewt is in Monsters of Faerûn, and got a really minor update in the Player's Guide to Faerûn web enhancement. Their BW is pretty weak: 1d6 damage, DC 12, only one target within 5'.

Thanks! I was hoping someone had a PC Firenewt with some house rules for the BW. 1d6 is how much they got in 1E! Faerun, eh? I'll have to check that out.

I'm seeing the date of this book as 2001, so that means 3.0. Has this been updated to 3.5 yet via some intriguing download? I checked the WotC site and could find zero.

I believe Player's Guide to Faerun has update info for the beasties in Monsters of Faerun.

btw, it annoys me to no end that a bunch of perfectly good generic monsters got stuck into MoF and pulled from 'standard' books (such as the firenewt).

Actually, it is an intruiging download. They couldn't fit the 3E-to-3.5E monster conversions in the PGtF, so its now a free web enhancement.

Is there a some kind soul who'd like to briefly list how the BW for a PC Firenewt might be different from a regular monster Firenewt? Thanks!

As far as I can tell, the only difference would be that the save DC should be based on the PC's stats, and maybe level.

I believe - and don't have my books with me, so I can't check - but I'm fairly certain ability DC's are always set by 10 + 1/2 HD + relevant ability mod. For a breath weapon, I'd wager that the ability is either Dexterity or Constitution.
