Where to find the best modern miniatures?

I was curious if anyone had found a good supplier of modern miniatures. I know most of the standard miniature makers: Reaper, Ironwind metal, Games Workshop, etc. I've searched the net and always tend to find war game miniatures. These are usually historical and at best are WWII. I'm looking for modern miniatures 25-28mm and preferably from a US dealer, but I'll take what I can get. I would like to fill out a collection with the following:

Police, both regular and SWAT
Journalist/TV Crew
Innocent bystanders
Terrorists/Criminals
Military personel
Player character types

I'm trying to avoid those with a futuristic bent like Shadworun. I also want to get away from the modern miniature with the huge assault cannon that is taller than the actual figure. That is not the realistic/modern look that Im trying to find. Thanks for the help.

I haven't bought any, but I've repeatedly looked at the figs at Tactical Miniatures. These look like a nice line of high quality 28mm modern figures for about $2/figure. I haven't picked any up yet, but I keep thinking about it.

I've got pretty much all the Street Violence range from the Foundary and I'ld highly recommend them if you can afford them and don't mind painting.

If you want prepaided http://www.em4miniatures.com/ do a limited modern prepainted range, and have a load of near future post apocalyse type unpainted figures (some of which will do for any modern setting) as well. They also do some very cheap unpainted plastic miniatures, if money is an issue.

I own the em-4 modern minis, but I wouldn't recommend them...unless you're good with modeling putty, and don't mind putting in the work to make them look good. Yes, they are pre-painted, but unlike the Dunwich detectives, the modern minis need to be mounted on their slotta-bases, and no, they don't fit very well. Took me about two hours to base, and then touch-up with black paint, all three modern sets from em-4. Also had to epoxy one of the minis that snapped off at the legs when pushed into the modeling putty.

That said, I'll put in the third AND fourth nomination for Foundry's Street Violence line. Most of these will also need to be based, but if you're painting, what the hey? Great minis. Sculpted with painting in mind, rather than sculpted as an end in itself.

Not exactly miniatures, but you can find over 200 Modern counters in Fiery Dragon's Counter Collection 3: Modern (available as a pdf at DriveThruRPG). They are also included in the Counter Collection Digital CD, available at several on-line retailers.
