Mephits would be the primary ones. You also have azers, magmin, gargoyles, and fire snakes. There might be others I'm missing. The "elemental" in the spell refers to the creature type "elemental", not the specific Elemental monster - much like Conjure Celestial doesn't specify what celestial being you summon, only that they're of the creature type celestial.

So what you are saying is to use something other than what the spell summons, (i.e. azers, magmin, gargoyles) and not Earth Air, Fire Water Elementals CR 1/8, 1/4, etc..

The spell has only the word "Elemental" so they could be those creatures, but they would have to be different types for each of the Elements, then where is the lists of all the elementals and what elemental creature is CR 1/4?

No, what he's saying is that the creatures he listed ARE the low CR elementals. Look at their stat blocks more closely.

The spell doesn't summon "small" water, fire, earth or air elementals. It summons creatures of the elemental type.

It's Conjure Minor Elementals, and it looks like WotC missed them, or at least made them difficult to find. Even I can't call this one a "Feature, not a bug."

The spell conjures elemental type creatures, so from the MM this is what I see.

CR 1/4: Mud, Smoke, and Steam Mephits
CR 1/2: Magmin plus Dust, Ice, and Magma Mephits
CR 1: Fire Snake
CR 2: Azer and Gargoyle

The spell seems to work fine to me.

It can be the current intent, as Paraxis states, but I would rather or also have smaller elementals.

They didn't miss them, but they did make them difficult to find. See Paraxis's reply directly below yours.

Yep. Just like other spells refer to beasts or fey or the like, the conjure elemental spells means any creature of the elemental type (of the proper CR), not just the "pure" air, earth, fire, or water elementals.
